Waiting for Spring

It's March 29th and temperatures still hover near 35 degrees with a wind chill that makes us miserable. It seems Mother Nature thinks we have not suffered enough. But somewhere, somehow, palettes of Rose wine are being shipped into our state, making us believe that Spring will soon - MUST soon - arrive.

We can't promise April will bring us much in the weather department, but we can promise good deals on wine, an amazing April Urban Sampler, and lots of fun events to see you through the month.

One more fun fact - our wine wall has 750 slots. In the ten months since we opened, we've carried over 2,200 different wines. To do that we've sold through 1,400 labels that we don't even carry in the store anymore. What does this mean for you? That our selection is always fresh, unique and interesting. We're not the store that just reorders the same selection month after month. We're always bringing in the best new wines we can find. If you haven't been to UG in a while, stop in and see what's new!

Until May,

TJ and Hadley Douglas, and the rest of The Urban Grape staff

Urban Tastings

It's a jam packed month at The Urban Grape. Our regularly scheduled free tastings are every Thursday and Friday night from 5-8 and every Saturday from 2-5. In addition, we are hosting lots of private events throughout the month at customer's homes - you never know where a UG tasting team might show up!

Here are some highlights for April:

March 31st, 5-8 PM: Lots to do in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Plaza this Thursday night! First stop at Eyespot, our new neighbors to the right for their "Ultimate Eye Scan" open house. Then cruise over to UG for a wine and cheese tasting, featuring cheese from Whole Foods Brighton.

April 1st, 5-8 PM: It's Aussie night at UG. Maybe you read our recent blog in defense of Australian wine but want to sample before you buy? Join Dan Paquette from Panther Distributors as he proves that Oz can still bring it.

April 9th, 2-5 PM: Join the lovely ladies from The Second Glass as they stage a mini Wine Riot at The Urban Grape; includes temporary tattoos, discounted tickets and a whole lotta of wine.

April 10th, 7-9 PM: UG, Whole Foods Brighton, Doves and Figs, and Good Cook Doris are teaming up to bring you an after-hours Passover tasting! We'll take a walk down memory lane as we pair Grandma's favorite Passover treats with cutting edge Kosher wine. Through it all we'll give you the tools to pull off an inspired Passover meal, all while keeping an eye turned toward tradition. RSVP to save your spot!

April 11th, 1-8 PM and April 20th, 10-5 PM: Are you a caterer or do you work for a catering company? Stop by UG for our Caterer Open Houses and learn about our new beverage catering division! RSVP to Barbara@theurbangrape.com.

April 13th, 6-9 PM: Join us at Ted Baker on Newbury Street and shop their entire collection at 20% off while sipping on featured wines, grooving to a DJ and nibbling on chocolate from Hotel Chocolat. This offer is just for this evening and just for clients of UG! RSVP required for admittance.

April 23rd, 2-5 PM: Grown ups deserve an Easter basket too. Fill yours with new spring wines and cheese from Whole Foods Brighton, all available at this special Easter tasting.

April 30th, 2-5 PM: Join Alan Greenberg, the national sales rep for Palmaz Vineyards, as he tastes us on their amazing Napa wines. "Love the land, know the grape, and make wine that honors both." This is a very special tasting!

Save the Date! May 7th is our Rose Wine Grand Tasting. We're seeking out the best Rose in the world and we'll have over 20 bottles open for you to try!

Spotlight Wine: 2009 Sean Minor Pinot Noir

Sean Minor PN

We may bring a lot of new wines into the store, but we also know better than to mess with the standbys. It's safe to say that across the board, our customers are mad for the Sean Minor Pinot Noir. It's such a best seller that we usually buy it 20 cases at a time!

This Pinot Noir is a serious crowd pleaser; smooth, round, juicy and balanced. It's always a good value wine, but at these prices it can't be beat. Take home a case today and you'll have a great bottle of wine to see you through the April holidays and the upcoming graduation parties.

Regular Price: $20

15% off bottle price: $17

25% off case price: $15/bottle, $180/case (case savings of $60)

Urban Buzz

The store has had some recent nice write ups on Boston Magazine's food blog and in the Newton Patch's "Great Escape" column.

In addition, our in-home wine tastings have become so popular that we've hired a new
staff member, Barbara Russack, to help us grow our capabilities in this area. For those of
you that have already met Barbara at the store, you've no doubt noticed her charm and
enthusiasm for wine. Now, in addition to TJ, Barbara is available to lead wine tastings in
our customers' homes almost any night of the week.

But don't take our word for it, here is what one happy customer had to say!

"On very short notice, we arranged a surprise in-home wine tasting for our family. From
start to finish The Urban Grape provided us a spectacular experience. From the inception
of the idea, Hadley Douglas began by understanding the feeling, flow, menu and budget
for our evening. She and TJ Douglas then transformed words and ideas into actions. When
he arrived, TJ had five wonderful bottles of wine with printed wine tasting cards for us to
rate and take notes on each wine. We could have listened to him for hours...actually, we
did! He is so incredibly knowledgeable about wine, and he presents it so effortlessly for the
listener to understand. All the wines he chose were phenomenal. Everyone went to bed
that night saying that aside from their weddings, it was one of the best nights of their
lives!"

Interested in booking an in-home tasting? Email Hadley to get the ball rolling!
