ReproTech Discusses Fertility Preservation at Cleveland Clinic - Florida

ReproTech was invited to speak at the Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers' (FSOSW) regional meeting on April 26 at the Cleveland Clinic-Florida.  RTL-Florida Site Director, Heather Cummins, spoke on Fertility Preservation Options for Oncology Patients.

Heather addressed FSOSW members and staff at Cleveland Clinic's Weston, FL medical center in RTL's ongoing effort to provide education and increase communications between oncology healthcare teams on fertility preservation options for cancer patients.

Thank you to Jenna McCarthy, MD and Kristen Stokes, from South Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine, for their participation in this successful event. We'd also like to thank the FSOSW members, Bettye Bradshaw and Cara Kondaki, for all of their help with coordination.

Fertility Preservation Program of Pittsburgh

offers Testicular Tissue Cryopreservation

to Prepubertal Patients

ReproTech is proud to welcome the Fertility Preservation Program of Pittsburgh to our Fertility Preservation Network.  In coordination with the Center for Fertility & Reproductive Endocrinology at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, the Program provides ovarian and testicular tissue cryopreservation, as well as semen, embryo and oocyte cryopreservation.

Testicular tissue cryopreservation (TTC) for prepubertal boys, offered under an IRB protocol at the Center, is the only fertility preservation option available for prepubertal boys with cancer.  The Fertility Preservation Program of Pittsburgh, led by Kyle Orwig, PhD, is one of the few centers in the U.S. to offer this service.

MWRIFThe Pittsburgh Program/Center is a member of the Oncofertility Consortium, and has established its own dedicated phone line (412) 641-7475 for patients and physicians to call for information on fertility preservation information and options.

A state appeals court recently reinstated a malpractice suit against an oncologist who failed to tell a leukemia patient that chemotherapy would cause infertility and that he could have banked his sperm before treatment began. A county judge erroneously dismissed the suit on summary judgment on the ground that the plaintiff was not alleging emotional distress. New Jersey has recognized disability and impairment as a separate cause of action for medical malpractice claims, the panel said.
