Exceptional Horsemanship Newsletter
Greetings!

It's that time again:
THE SUPREME EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER

 Fort Worth, TX

If you're feeling uninspired, lacking imagination, not motivated, watch what some people are doing in just 100 days with an untrained Mustang. The 'show your stuff' finals were a couple of weeks ago.   Unbelievable!   Click here to see some of your youtube viewing choices.

I had the opportunity to do a little work with two of the horses that did very well this year. One came in 3rd in the Stars category and the other came

in 5th in the Idols. For those of you who read it or if you haven't been on the website to read "Six Days with a Wild Mustang", that horse that I had for those first 6 days was the Reserve Champion in the Legends 2011 category. Now go there and read it!Mustang for 10/12

Got a new video for you!  It's huge (long). Tons of "a different way to think about training". By looking closer at a few things and taking care of them - the big things people work on/struggle with don't happen so much. I'm just putting the finishing touches on it. I'll send out a special email as soon as it's ready.

If you're new to the newsletter, the archives button on the right side of the column below the Curbside Service book info on my home page will catch you up on all the training ideas you've missed.

So... Are You Horseman Material????

How to Have a Successful Conversation with your Horse.

People love to talk about themselves - true or TRUE!

But, you have two ears and one mouth for a reason - listen twice as much as you talk. So, as that applies to your horse - to have a successful conversation, ask questions OF your horse!!!  Then listen TO your horse! Of course if your horse doesn't speak in English, in sentences, you may have to listen in a different manner. Heck, I speak English - in sentences - and it's still tough getting people to listen, so I know the horses have a difficult situation much of the time.

"What else" could be the problem? "What else" could be the answer?

Menniger Institute study says - The single most important quality that you can develop is flexibility. The opposite is rigidity. Unwillingness to change in the face of new info or circumstances.

I have an insatiable hunger to know everything about how a horse operates in mind and body. And I have this compelling urge to see people come to life with their horse.

The beauty of "I don't know, but..."
To stay on the cutting edge, you need to test and develop new and different techniques.

People are funny - as in strange, not ha ha. They want things to get better and yet stay the same. Too risky, might not work, improvement, advancement, even better, more useful.

"All courses of action are risky, so prudence is not in avoiding danger (it's impossible), but calculating risk and acting decisively. Make mistakes of ambition and not mistakes of sloth. Develop the strength to do bold things, not the strength to suffer."    Niccolo Machiavelli

There's a difference between techniques and technique.
For exceptional results, think "how and how can I".

Upcoming stuff:
For those of you interested in investigating touch healing methods with your animals, check out my new friend Carla's video here. It's remarkable to watch the horse's responses.
What does it take? What are you missing? If you're missing it, how do you know it?
Who, What, When, Where, How and Why
Not upcoming, at least as I originally thought, is the interview with the trainer who sold the 2 horses to Cavalia. I could not get the info I was after and the background noise makes it un-useable. I going to try to snag a few snippets out of the video to transcribe. Sorry.
