| Luxe Design Trends: LEED Certification |
 More and more Luxe Renters are drawn to the Green lifestyle as we add more new luxury properties to the Luxe List with Silver and Gold LEED Certifications. Currently, there are over two dozen LEED Certified Luxe List Member properties and more are on the way. To that end today's design feature is dedicated to living green and the building requirements to achieve LEED certification. Alta at K Station in Chicago, pictured above, was the first property in Chicago to be LEED Gold certified. Alta K planted visually attractive "Green roofs" which are vegetated surfaces that reduce heat island effects by replacing heat absorbing surfaces with plants, shrubs and small trees that cool the air through evapotranspiration. Their other landscaping is designed with climate-tolerant plants that can survive on natural rainfall and the layout is geared to capture all direct Chicago rainwater runoff. All parking spaces at Alta K are under cover reducing the "heat island" effect present at open air parking lots while special reserved parking has been set aside for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles and bicycles. The entire building uses energy-efficient, high-performance "low-E" glass windows and doors to filter heat from the sun and there is a unique day lighting system that reduces the need for artificial light on sunny days. Planners often stress that a successful green project must be located on an "appropriate site" that offers residents "connectivity" to their community. Well Alta K meets those criteria. Formally the site of an old abandoned rail yard, Alta K is walking distance to many services and businesses residents use on a daily basis. As August 2011 comes to a close and the Labor Day holiday approaches the harbinger of "back to work" for many and "back to school" is clearly on our minds. At Luxe List we used the month of August to return to many of the metros we've opened and showcased on the Luxe List over the past year in an effort to search for new and newly converted properties in those markets. We are happy to report that we discovered many new and exciting luxury properties that recently came on line and an assortment of other luxury properties set to be ready for occupancy in the 4th quarter of 2011. As a result we've added new Luxe List Member properties to our Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Orlando and Washington DC Luxe Lists. But we're not finished yet, so check back with us often to stay up to date on the growing US Luxe List.
