It's called the Sancal Elipse, by Rafa Garcia, designer for Sancal, a Spanish furniture and upholstery design company. The table's upper and bottom pieces are carved out of lacquered high frequency pressed Medium Density Fiberboard. The MDF surfaces gracefully arch toward each other to artfully shield the supporting structural steel tube, lacquered in a matching epoxy coat, from many view angles. This clever use of curvaceous surfaces and hidden structural support gives the piece its weightless appearance. The defining designer's touch are the two protruding black forearms that give the impression of a person being trapped inside the futuristic-looking table, like in a science fiction vortex.
