Lobby Day is Rapidly Approaching |
| Once again, Lobby Day is upon us. This is your opportunity to personally reach those who serve you in our legislature. Each of you can make a difference. Every face that pops into a senator or delegate's office will leave an impression. Each face, each name, each person who cares enough about our rights to take a day of his or her time, get in a car, drive to the capitol, and make a personal appearance in support of their rights sends a powerful message. And that message is not just your own. Your appearance carries with it the knowledge that you represent hundreds or thousands of like-minded individuals who were unable to show in person. Every representative in Charleston knows that each of you represents so many more who vote. I look forward to seeing you all next Monday in Charleston.
We will be meeting at 9AM, Monday, February 15th under the capitol rotunda. This is on the ground floor of the capitol building. If you walk up the main steps of the capitol, we will be meeting in the center of the building one floor down from there. I hope to see every one of you there. Can you imagine the impression we would make if everyone on this list showed up in person? I would love to see that happen. |

Volunteers Stepping Up |
|
Obviously, we are an all-volunteer organization. However, some folks are stepping up to the plate to really help us move forward. This is great news for all of us.
First and foremost, I am pleased to announce today that, as your President, I have appointed WVCDL founder and Past President Jim Mullins as our Legislative Director and General Counsel. As you may know, Mr. Mullins resigned last month to spend more time at his law practice and run for the state Senate in the 9th District (Raleigh and Wyoming counties). I am very pleased that he is willing to continue serving WVCDL in these capacities. I have stated before that Jim's bill-writing abilities and knowledge of the political process in Charleston are second to none. I am very pleased that Jim has volunteered to continue his work with the WVCDL in these critical roles.
Also, in furtherance of our recruitment efforts, I have appointed Brian Holley as our first Gun Show Coordinator. Brian has demonstrated concrete commitment and effort in the furtherance of our rights in the past, and will no doubt help a great deal with my goal of having a WVCDL table at every gun show in this state. Brian's dedication is a proven quantity. But he will need your help. Brian will certainly be calling for other volunteers to help him staff these events, distribute literature, and generally spread the word. We are a young organization. And this effort is absolutely crucial. When Brian calls for volunteers, if you can, please help. Besides, we can all think of worse ways to spend a Saturday or Sunday than being around gun-people at a gun show, right?
Last, and certainly not least, I have appointed Beth Morgan as our membership director. Beth will be helping us with managing our membership rosters. So, many of you might be getting membership renewal reminders in the not-too-distant future thanks to her efforts. Look for more information on this in future messages.
Thanks to Jim, Brian, and Beth, all of you who have shown up to WVCDL events, and each of you who has contacted your representatives on our behalf. |

Open Carry Dinner |
As a reminder, we will be hosting an open carry dinner at Harding's Family Restaurant on March 27, 2010 immediately off of exit one on interstate 79. This is roughly two miles outside of the Charleston city limits. We've already had several members and non-members alike RSVP for the event. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by email to me at kmorgan@wvcdl.org. This should be an enjoyable dinner. Look for more information on this in the coming weeks. |
