SBSO IS IN THE NEWS

Greetings from the San Bernardino Symphony!

You may have noticed that our electronic newsletter has a new look this month. We've redesigned the style of this email to match our new and improved website. If you haven't visited sanbernardinosymphony.org lately, take a moment to surf over and check it out -- we think you'll like it!

Our Symphony Orchestra has been in the news a lot lately. I would like to share a couple of recent stories with you in case you missed them.

First of all, Michel Nolan of the San Bernardino Sun wrote a great piece about our upcoming season, which she describes as "maybe the best yet." You can view her article online. You can also check out the season preview on our website, where you'll find links to music clips, information about guest artists, and details on how to purchase season tickets.

Her 23 years of invaluable support were recognized by a "Most Valuable Player" award from the Association of California Symphony Orchestras. I'm sure I speak for everyone at SBSO in saying that the award is richly deserved.

2010 is a big year for anniversaries here in San Bernardino. As you know, the city celebrated its bicentennial earlier this year, and the coming SBSO season marks my tenth year as conductor of this wonderful symphony orchestra. But there is another anniversary that I would like to mention. The Community Hospital of San Bernardino is celebrating its 100th anniversary this fall -- read below for more information about the hospital's very special Centennial Gala, to be held on October 25. It's a worthwhile event honoring a significant milestone.

And remember, the first concert of our spectacular 2010-2011 season is only a month and a half away! Mark your calendars now, and look for more details in our next newsletter.

Let the music move you!

COMMUNITY HOSPITAL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Join Our Friends at CHSB for Their Centennial Gala!

[ Click to download the RSVP form. ]In support of our good friends at Community Hospital of San Bernardino, we'd like to make you aware of a very special event coming up next month.

CHSB is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and they've planned a fantastic gala event on October 25 to mark 100 years of exceptional care and service to our community.

Founded in 1910 by Dr. Henry Mills, CHSB was originally called Ramona Hospital and located at the corner of Arrowhead Avenue and 4th Street. The hospital moved to its current location in 1958. What began as a one-story building with 133 beds now spans four buildings and four city blocks. Each year, CHSB admits more than 13,000 patients, treats roughly 40,000 in the emergency department, and delivers nearly 2,600 babies. Now that's an accomplishment worth celebrating!

To take part in the CHSB Centennial Gala, download the RSVP form, fill it out, and send it in by August 31. (Instructions are on the form.) Don't miss this opportunity to show your support for an institution that has been saving lives in San Bernardino since 1910!
