MARGARET BOWEN GALLERY
ROCKS WITH SCULPTURES
This past Friday on March 30, the VAC opened with a sculpture
exhibit of traditional "in the round" pieces. Using conventional and contemporary materials such as, bronze, steel, stone, driftwood, and plastic polymer clay (just to name a few!), this sculpture exhibit delighted the many visitors.
Dana Depew's 9ft high PEEP TOWER encouraged viewers to look through the many peepholes to uncover another perspective while members Ed Zmarzly, Travis Cook and John Sweeney of Light Sculpture Works entertained the crowd with their unique metalworks.
Wood appeared as a beautifully shaped form in, RECLINING FIGURE, by Dale Slavin and a carved African goddess in, AFRICAN ADVENTURE, by John Vitale. And don't miss the vibrant BEAUTIFUL WOMAN SERIES of driftwood and preserved flowers by Ellie Janusauskaite.
So plan to join us for some 3-D exploration in our Margaret Bowen Gallery. "Cleveland Rocks" runs through Friday, May 18. Gallery hours are Mon-Fri 10-4 and Sat 10-2. The VAC would like to thank MULTICRAFT INC. for their continued support of our gallery exhibits.

PARTY AT GERTIE'S
Saturday, August 11
Have you seen the charming film by Woody Allen entitled
"Midnight in Paris"? By the 1930's, Paris had become a worldwide center for artistic avant-garde and freethinking intellectuals. One of the most famous of these was Gertrude Stein (played by Kathy Bates in the movie). Gertrude's Saturday evenings at 27 Rue de Fleurus were frequented with the likes of Henri Rousseau, Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, the F. Scott Fitzgeralds, and on and on. We, at the VAC, would like to invite you to an evening of outrageous fun in the style of Gertie. Join us for heavy hors'dorves, libations, dancing, art, bourbon tasting, costume contest, smoking tent, and, of course, stimulating conversation set in 1930's Paris! Plan to dress as your favorite 1930's era character. There are so many choices from Pablo Picasso, Bonnie and Clyde, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Betty Boop, Shirley Temple, Charlie Chaplin, Superman, Marx Bros. Or maybe. . .Gertie herself! |
