This newsletter provides the latest events, news, and updates about the Valley Art Center.  
FALL WELCOMES WORKSHOPS TO VAC   
     Come to the VAC and learn how to make amazing creations using simple techniques and a bit of wool!   Whether you're a beginner or not, Kristi Lavell, a Chagrin Falls artistan, will instruct on inlay methods of felting using pre-felts and how to enhance felted fabrics with simple 3-D construction using barbed needles.  Join us for BASIC FELTING (#2384), Sun, Oct 23 or INTERMEDIATE FELTING (#2385), Sun, Nov 13.  Both workshops are for Adults/Teens only and from 10-4.  Cost $60.  Individual projects welcomed.
     Love painting and people?  Then Tricia Kaman's PORTRAIT PAINTING  (#2388) is perfect for you.  Join Tricia, a regional and internationally awarded artist, as she focuses on "Capturing Unique Qualities of the Individual" through traditional practices in oil and

pastel painting.  Previous drawing and painting experience recommended. Workshop scheduled on Sat, Oct 22, from 10-4 with 1 hour lunch from 12:30-1:30. Cost $80. 
     Finally, STEAMPUNK POLYMER CLAY is back by popular demand!  Instructor, Joan Rusek, will take you on a wild ride using polymer clay to create fun and funky objects as well as adorable small sculptures!  STEAMPUNK I (#2360), Sat, Nov 5 and STEAMPUNK II (#2361), Sat, Nov 12 are both for Adults/Teens.Workshop hours are 12-2:30.  Cost $35.
     And we didn't leave the kids out!  Instructor, Emily English, has cooked up some fun with WASSILY KANDINSKY: PAINTING TO MUSIC, Sat, Oct 15 and ANDY WARHOL: COLOR & POP ART on Sat, Nov 19.  Learn about each artist then create your own masterpiece using the artist's style and techniques.  Each workshop is offered 10-12 or 1-3.  Cost $20 per session.  Also, NO SCHOOL! WORKSHOP (#2357), Fri, Oct 14, from 9-12 or 1-4.  Cost $25.  All children's workshops are for ages 5-10.

VAC has a NEW and IMPROVED registration policy!  It's simple!  Just register TWO WEEKS before the start of a new session and save $10 off of your TOTAL registration (workshops excluded.)  So plan ahead and save!!

Fall II classes start the week of October 31 so be sure to register by MONDAY, OCT 17!  Call 440.247.7507 or email office@valleyartcenter.org to register.

40th Annual Juried Art Exhibit

     It is that time of year again when the leaves are changing colors and artists

are busy getting ready to submit their work to VAC's 

40th Annual Juried Art Exhibit.  This highly anticipated show invites artists within a 250-mile radius of Chagrin Falls, to enter up to two pieces of their best work.  Jurors this year are Lucette Johnson, graduate of CIA and most recently noted for her series of hearts and Gayle Pritchard, fiber artist as well as curator, lecturer, teacher and author. Artwork will be accepted October 20-October 22 from 10-4 each day.  CALL TO ENTRY is available on-line at  www.valleyartcenter.org or call 440.247.7507 to receive a form by mail.

VAC & CDFF Bring Art Films to Community 

    Coming off of their huge success last year, the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival (CDFF) felt the VAC was the perfect place for these films--"Sum of its pArts", "Art for the Living", and "Kodachrome." VAC is proud to partner with the CDFF this year, bringing films on art to the center.  ONE NIGHT ONLY!  Join us at the VAC, Friday, October 14 at 5:30 for a viewing of short documentaries and discussions with our guest speaker-filmmaker, Jamie Thalman.  So mark your calendar and join us for some theater treats, interesting information and film fun! This showing is free and open to the public.  CLICK HERE for additional CDFF information. 

 GIFTS GALORE FOR THE VAC 

     Recently, the VAC has been the fortunate recipient of many "gifts" from the Chagrin Valley area.  We would like to thank everyone for their generosity in helping us to continue our dedication to presenting, promoting and teaching visual arts in the Chagrin Valley.  These donations have allowed us to offer new classes, expand our resource library, update our website and offer students quality supplies while learning.

CLEVELAND GIVECAMP AWARDS GRANT

     On Friday, July 29, VAC staff boarded an old boat, aka HornBlowers, in downtown Cleveland to start a weekend blitz of revamping the VAC website.  VAC was thrilled to be selected for this annual event that partners technology professionals with non-profit organizations.  These professionals offer their services for free to complete projects submitted by each organization. 

     Be sure to check out our new website -- STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION, so please be patient as we continue to improve our website!
