Per the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, HRSA recently released a funding opportunity for teaching health centers. The grants will provide funding for direct and indirect expenses associated with teaching health center residency programs. The purpose of the grants is to support community-based training and increase the availability of primary care physicians. HRSA estimates that the average annual grant size will be $900,000 per year for five years (contingent on meeting applicable standards each year). According to HRSA, federally qualified health centers ("FQHCs") are the primary target of the grants.

We encourage all community health centers, including FQHCs and hospitals with affiliation agreements with local FQHCs, to review the synopsis and application materials as this represents a great opportunity for those who are looking to establish a community-based residency program.
