| This Saturday (May 15) is both
Peace Officers Memorial Day
& Armed Forces Day.
|
Typically, Peace Officers Memorial Day is a
Half-Staff day; but in a year where it falls on the same date as Armed
Forces Day, there is an exception written into flag code, and it becomes
a full-staff day. Here's an exerpt from the official flag code: "The
flag shall be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day,
unless that day is also Armed Forces Day."
If
there is a Presidential Proclamation made, you will receive another
notification. If this happens, federal buildings
are required to follow the President's order.
If a Governor orders a half staff for this day, state buildings in that state are
required to follow it.
Private
citizens are encouraged to honor state and federal proclamations, but have the choice to honor it or not on private homes and businesses.
