Greetings!
Thank you for taking the time to read through this
newsletter. I know you get a lot of mail
and you do have the right to "EDIT" out for the sake of time. It is very important to me, our Ministry and most importantly the
villagers and their hope that keeps us going forth, that you honor us with your
time to see what is happening in Kenya through Go and Do Likewise and our
connection to GAD Kenya.
Highlighted in this issue is our new Student Scholarship
section on our website and our upcoming trip to the village. You will also see another short prompt about
the potential that comes with solar lights.
Finally I want to share with you our great hope for a library to be used
by all the communities and students from neighboring schools who might be able
to take advantage of this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Bud Potter

Village Visit
Looking forward a few weeks
In just a few short weeks another group will be making its
way to Kenya. This time there will be
six of us, four who are brand new to the village and to Africa. The trip promises
to be significant from the plans that are in place. Hopefully we will be working on the first
steps to build a library (see the article about this). Also planned is a side visit to a Masai
village where the families of two of our most recent students live. This is amazing in itself as the Kisii and the
Masai have not always been at peace and yet GAD Kenya, which is based and led
by members of the Kisii peoples, is reaching across traditional boundaries and
helping their Masai neighbors gain an education. Symbolically this is a very large step in the
village.
A visit to the office of the Chief as the representative of
the government will be special to those who have not visited before. Very important for me will be the seminar for
the women and girls in Secondary schools.
This seminar is to reinforce the need for family priority of education,
especially among the families with daughters.
Three of our travelers will be women and they are preparing their presentations
to the women. This seminar is for women
by women. I would love to be a mouse in
the corner, but I will have to wait as everyone else for the outcome.
Mostly though, for me, is the chance to be with my friends
and the children. I know the travelers
will, as I have, fall totally in love with these amazing young people of the
village. I long to see their hope and hear their song
and watch their dance. To know that we
are a physical reminder of a hope they have not known before. To greet and be greeted by so many I know now
as friends and my Kenya family.
I would love to share this with you one day

A library for all purposes and all people;
While talking to the teachers and principle of the school I asked about the need for books. Yes, they said, they have a great need for books. Text books must be according to the national syllabus approved by the Education Directors. Books of all kinds though are needed. Story books, articles, reading materials of all kind. The problem in securing those books is; they have no secure place to keep them. In addition they have no place with room and light where the students or anyone can read the books. Sadly they said we need books and have no place for them. We still hope to have the funds prior to departure in a few weeks so we might begin to construct a secure, sturdy and permanent structure for use as a library in the village.

| Go and Do Likewise continues to depend upon your donations to continue the support in the village to improve basic health, offer economic opportunity and afford the very poor families the chance to educate their children. We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty that grips the very poor. |

Scholarships, a key to the future
You are invited to look over the student Scholarship pages
on our web site. There you can see the students, read a little about them, get
an idea of what their hopes and dreams are and easily take the step to sponsor
one of these amazing kids through their Secondary (high school) education. You will get a letter from them, a picture
and updates on their progress. You will
be able to interact through the mail with your student and, when you are ready,
journey with us to village to meet your student in person. You will be able to visit the family and see
the hope you offer through your involvement.
We have tried to make it as easy and simple as possible to give the opportunity of education to a young person in the village area.
As you look through the student pages just click on the bottom of the student page you have chosen. You will be taken to our secure site Acceptiva. Once there follow the simple steps and you are quickly taking the hand of a young person and giving them the encouragement and assistance necessary.
Our sponsor advocate is available to assist you through the year to make sure your questions and concerns are answered.

Solar is the new lighting option available in the
village. Solar clip lights and Cell phone charging units give new
profile to learning, healthy homes and the chance for a small
business. Your support can make these lights available for the very
poorest of families
