Worship & Sing
Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse

January. 2012
Greetings!
cpc rose window

As I hope you know by now, we're not bagging groceries for AFAC Monday evening. But it is King Day, and we'd love to have you join us for some community time. So, if you're free around 4:00 p.m., come on over to the house. We're going to be singing songs of the Civil Rights movement, and we'll have a big ol' pot of chilli on. Bring anything you'd like to share (including friends who might enjoy some home-made music and food), and bring your voice! It doesn't have to be a so-called "good" voice, just one that longs for freedom for all people, and enjoys making a bit of joyful noise in celebrating the life of Dr. King.

To inspire you, here's a version of O, Freedom! Send us a quick note to let us know you're coming.

In the regular e-blast this week I forgot to mention that, in worship tomorrow morning, we'll use some of King's words, and if you'd like to be a reader please zip me a note.

We'll close worship tomorrow with what was Martin Luther King's favorite spiritual, Precious Lord, Take My Hand. Here's a beautiful version of the Thomas Dorsey classic performed by a small choir in a Presbyterian church in Athens, Ga.

Saving graces

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
