Gracias! Lots of Notes of Thanks that We Should Share ... and a Call for Help!
Thanks to James Fisher for last Sunday's coffee time.

Thanks to Tom Hull, whose recommendation saved the church a bundle on a repair to the front door!

Help Wanted!
We have no one signed up to host coffee time following worship this Sunday. If you can step in, please let me know.

Milestones

Don Hodgen asks prayers for his mother, who faces a lengthy recovery following a car accident.

Happy birthday to our friend Michelle Hoyos, who turns 30 next Tuesday!

In this space we celebrate moments and milestones in the lives of members of the community. So, if you have a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation, a promotion, a retirement, or other milestone to celebrate send me a note and we'll shout it out right here.

Likewise, if you have a prayer concern that you'd like lifted up in the prayer lives of the the community, let me know and we'll list that here, as well.

Prepare the Way!
Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse

December. 2011
Greetings!
cross

This Sunday we continue the season of Advent as we draw closer to Bethlehem and the manger.

What is your favorite part of this season? What are your favorite memories of Decembers past?

Recalling seasons past is one way of preparing for what's coming next. Joyous recollections open our hearts to renewed joy, and even sorrowful memories break open our hearts to renewal.

So spend a few minutes right now, by yourself or in conversation with those near you, recalling stories from previous Advents. Are there common themes to your memories? Who is part of them? Do they include your faith community and times of worship? Do they include music?

Often, we prepare the way of the Lord best by way of our own history. As we look forward to the coming again of Christ into our lives, take a moment to look back as well. Then come and worship!

Come. Let us worship.

Deck the Halls this Sunday!!!

christmas treeOK. The tree in our sanctuary is not going to be quite as tall as the Washington Monument, no matter how we look at it!

But we will make the place sparkle and shine for this season of light.

This Sunday following worship we'll deck the halls! We'll put up the Christmas tree in the sanctuary, hang the greens around the place and prepare our space for this sacred and festive season.

We'll bring coffee hour to the sanctuary, and everyone is invited to hang an ornament or a wreath or something!

Deck the halls with boughs of holly and ring some joy into the world!
Stewardship Season Begins Generously

Our annual pledge drive has begun! In our first week we received about 20 pledges totaling approximately $44,000, toward a 2012 goal of $85,000. It's the best first week we've had in many years, and we give a huge thanks to every one who has responded to the invitation to make a financial commitment to the mission and ministry at Clarendon.

We'll use this spot in the coming weeks to keep you posted on progress. In the meanwhile, please bring your pledge card to church Sunday and drop it in the offering plate or use the return mail card and send it to church. Every pledge matters greatly to our common work, and every pledge is deeply appreciated.

Dance, Dance, Dance!

rainbowSaturday, December 17, CPC will host a dance party for the Gay-Straight Alliances of Wakefield and Washington & Lee High Schools.

We're feeding and hosting several dozen teenagers that evening from 7:00 - 10:00, and can use your help.

Cheryl and Clark will be whipping up pizzas, and we're happy to accept any snack or soft drink donations.

We'd also love to have some grown ups on hand. So, if you enjoy spending time with teenagers, please join the party!

A year or so ago some polling outfit discovered that a majority of teenagers know what the word "abomination" means. This is an opportunity for a faith community to teach something else to the young people of our community.

Saving graces

"Every year we celebrate the holy season of Advent, O God. Every year we pray those beautiful prayers of longing and waiting, and sing those lovely songs of hope and promise."
