Summer Schedule

Milestones
| Hannah Lederle-Ensign turns 12 this Sunday.
We celebrate the birthday of James Fisher, June 30.
In this space we celebrate moments and milestones in the lives of members of the community. So, if you have a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation, a promotion, a retirement, or other milestone to celebrate send me a note and we'll shout it out right here.
Likewise, if you have a prayer concern that you'd like lifted up in the prayer lives of the the community, let me know and we'll list that here, as well.

Summer Worship
Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse | June.2011
|
Greetings!
Summer is officially here! For those who love the sunshine, heat (and humidity), this is a season to celebrate in the great outdoors. For those who would prefer it a bit cooler, tis the season to give thanks for the life of Mr. Carrier! Summer is also a good time to enjoy Sabbath renewal. This season, find a Sabbath practice and the renewal that rest and restoration brings. We'll keep worship lively on the Lord's Day each week, and sprinkle the summer with several opportunities to serve our neighbors and to enjoy our community. This Week in WorshipSunday morning we'll celebrate the sacrament of baptism for Elsie Grace Scarcella, daughter of Marc and Cindy. We'll also read and ponder the strange story of Abraham and Isaac from Genesis 22. The following Sunday, July 3, we'll talk about American Dreams, and share a combination of American scripture and readings from the Bible. If you have a piece of classic American writing (e.g. The Gettysburg Address) that you'd like to share, please bring it to worship on the third. Sunday, July 10, the Rev. Rich Parsons of the Center for Pastoral Counseling will be with us in worship. grace and peace, David |

Summer Fun!
The first two big events for summer are on the church calendar, so you should mark yours as well!
Friday, June 24, 7:00 p.m., enjoy "An Evening In Dushanbe." Suzanne Matula will share her experiences of living and working in Tajikistan. Dinner will be "catered" by The Lebanese Taverna. Soft drinks will be provided by CPC, anything else is BYOB. Cost will be $12 per person. You MUST RSVP by no later than Thursday, June 23, if you plan to attend so that we know how much food to order. Contact Mike Bagwell (or 703-931-0515). Saturday, July 9, 7:00 p.m., enjoy "An Evening with Scott Pryor." Philly Weekly calls Scott "perhaps the finest acoustic songwriter in Philadelphia." Scott is touring with a newly released EP. You can check out a few of Scott's songs here. Suggested donation: $10. We've got a few other events in the works, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, mark your calendar for Sunday, August 28, when we'll worship in the woods at Mason Neck State Park for our annual church picnic.

Plotting Against Hunger, and Other Gardening Notes
Let's plot against hunger!
Come out next Wednesday evening, June 29, 7:00, to meet with leaders from AFAC's Plot Against Hunger program, and we'll learn how we might begin to grow some food at Clarendon. We'll meet in the tan parlor to start, but probably spend more time exploring places on the grounds that we might productively garden.
Meanwhile, if you've got extra produce from your own garden and would like to share with the church community, please feel free to bring it in on Sundays. We'll have a gleaning table available.
