Gracias! Lots of Notes of Thanks that We Should Share
| Thanks to Carol DeFord for hosting a delicious coffee hour Sunday. Thanks to Cheryl for hosting the AFAC baggers, and thanks to all of baggers who shared some wonderful food for our potluck.
This weekend and next: Look for a coffee time sign-up sheet for the new year.
Thanks to Amber Hodgen for organizing us into a sandwich-making machine Sunday, and thanks to everyone who lent hands to the cause. We prepared many meals to be fed Christmas Eve to our sisters and brothers who struggle on the streets.
Thanks to Molly DeMaret for organizing some special Christmas giving opportunities. We collected more than a dozen books for the Reading Connection and $50 in gift cards for Doorways.
Thanks also to the donor of a warm winter coat. We passed that gift along to a very grateful man who was facing the cold weather with nothing more than a light windbreaker.

Readers Still Needed: Last Chance!
| We will celebrate Christmas Eve with a service rich in lessons. If you'd like to be part of the service as a reader please let me know. If you already responded to this invite last week, no need to send another note, but we do need more voices.
Also, on Sunday, Dec. 26, our worship will include more readings than most Sundays, including a multi-part narration that calls for several readers. If you'd like to be part of that one, please let me know.
The part of "the voice of God" has already been taken (Martin jumped at that), but there are other voices needed. Be one!
Send me a note and I'll get you the words.

Greetings!
In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3All went to their own towns to be registered. 4Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. 5He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. 7And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. This is the ancient story that we gather around this weekend. Come to the manger. Come and worship the Christ, the newborn king! We worship on Christmas Eve at 7:30, and again on Sunday morning at 10:00. Joy to the world! The Lord is come! Let earth receive her king! DavidPS: We need readers for worship on Christmas Eve and on Sunday morning. If you would like to be part of either service, please send me a note today! |

Christmas Eve Schedule
Join us on Christmas Eve at 5:30 for some hot soup sustenance before we pack the A-SPAN meals into cars at 5:45 and head over to Virginia Square for the first drop at 6:00. We move from there to arrive at the second drop at Rosslyn by 6:30. We should be back at church by 7:00, and there will still be soup at church upon our return so that you can warm up in Wilson Hall before worship begins at 7:30.

Please Note: A Call for Coats, Gift Cards ... and Ideas
With the cold weather upon us we've seen an increase in the number of people seeking assistance from the church. By long-standing policy we do not provide direct cash assistance, but we do try to give aid in other direct ways, including clothes and gift cards to grocery stores. If you have some gently worn warm clothes to donate we can certainly use them. Also, small denomination gift cards from Giant are always welcome. If you have additional ideas for ways that we can meet some basic needs in the community, please make suggestions. We are trying to develop additional direct aid capacity that does not exceed either our space constraints or our staffing limits, but that can help with some basic food and clothing needs.

Pledge Drive Update
We have received 23 thus far for the 2011 CPC budget, and the drive stands at $54,836. Our goal is $85,000.
Thanks so much to all those who have pledged already. It is tremendously helpful to the budget process. If you haven't offered your pledge yet, please consider doing so this weekend.
Pledge cards are available at church or send me a note and I'll e-mail it to you. You can also simply send an e-mail to Reg Mitchell with your pledge amount. Also let Reg know if you plan to honor the pledge on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis or some other schedule that fits your own circumstance.
Give until giving makes a difference in your life.

Readings for the week include: Isaiah 7:10-16; Psalm 80; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 2:1-20; Titus 3:4-7. (Trying something new with the links this week. The link above should connect to all of the passages.)
