Gracias! & Help ...
Thanks to the youngest members of the community -- Penn, Tor, Lenka and Hannah -- who put away the tables and chairs after the potluck last week when all of the grownups left. Ahem.

Thanks to Carol and Cheryl who cleaned up the kitchen after the potluck.

We look forward to the hospitality of Toni Bissessar who is hosting coffee time this weekend.

We have two coffee time hosting openings this month: the 14th and the 28th. Let me know if you can host: revdocdee@gmail.com.
Worship Team Wants You!
The worship team has some powerful plans in store for November and December that call for sharing some of our stories.

Now all we need is you and your stories. Please let me know.

In November we are shaping worship around hunger and God's provision. We'll use the Exodus story of manna in the wilderness as a starting place.

We're looking for your stories of a time when you received unexpected hospitality, when someone fed you when you needed it but didn't expect it. Or, the other way around: do you have a story of a time when you offered a timely, unexpected meal? Please send me a note this week letting me know if you have a story to share.

During Advent, we are looking for stories of unexpected gifts. Do you have such a story to share?
Send me a note.
Tea Time
The former Brown Bag Book Group has transformed into Tea Time! We're meeting at 10:30 Thursday mornings at Sunrise on N. Glebe. In honor of Halloween, we're reading some ghost stories, including Holy Ghosts. Join us -- if you dare!
A Season of Spirit
                        Begins Now

Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse
November.2010
Greetings!

cross
Come out and play! Tomorrow evening is a Wii Kirk night. We'll get together at 6:30 for pizza, conversation, games and more. Bring whatever you like to have with pizza and we'll share a wonderful meal and great time.

Also, bring a nonperishable food item to donate to AFAC. Consider it your ticket!

Season of Spirit
We have begun a six month season of prayer, study and spiritual growth at CPC. At the congregational meeting last week many of you took a booklet to guide our shared reflections and prayers. I'll have more on hand this weekend, and invite you to take one home and commit to being part of this season of spirit.

During November we'll focus on feeding, using the story of manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16) as our Biblical foundation. Members of the community will be sharing personal stories of times when they received the grace of an unexpected meal.

There is a time for every purpose under heaven. This is a season of spirit. Come and see! Come and worship.

peace,

Sunday School: A Joyous Opportunity to Serve

kidsAre you interested in getting to know some of the children in our congregation? You are in luck: We need Sunday School teachers!

Teaching on any given Sunday is no more than a 30-minute commitment including prep time. We are pulling the younger children out during the Sermon and presenting one of the lectionary readings for that day in "kids language" plus related activity (approx 15-20 min).

Prep time is 5-10 minutes at the most. Please consider this as a way to share your time and talents.

When the children are baptised, we all pledge to assist and guide them in their spiritual journeys and this is where they get started. The children are insightful, open and a pleasure to teach. You may even end up learning something too!

Fun Stuff Coming Your Way Soon!

The next Wii Kirk is on the church's calendar so mark yours! Tomorrow  we'll gather in Wilson Hall to enjoy the artisan pizzas of Clark Chesser and Cheryl Lederle (AKA, Mr. and Ms. Pizza), play some games on the Wii, and have some good conversation.

We open the doors at 6:30 p.m. and the party usually goes till 9:00. So run, rush, drive -- do what you must -- but don't miss Wii Kirk! Share the joy: invite a friend.

Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to AFAC. Consider this your ticket to a good time!

The Lederle-Ensign clan also invites you to their annual cookie baking open house to celebrate the season of Advent. This year the cookie bake will be Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. We'll have a steaming pot of chili, and enough sugar, butter and flour to put a small army into a food coma. Mark your calendars!
Session Creates Music Study Team

Responding to the promptings of the small group meetings this fall, session has asked a small task group (Clark Chesser, Carol Deford, Travis Reindl and Peg True) to study music ministry at CPC. The group has been asked to do the following:
  • to take the information gathered through the small groups and other means that they determine;
  • to look at the history of music ministry at CPC;
  • to look at music ministries in other small, progressive congregations; and
  • to draft a mission/vision statement for music ministry at Clarendon.
The group has also been asked to develop a position description for leading such a ministry. Session anticipates receiving information prior to its January planning retreat, and bringing a report to the congregation at the January 30 congregational meeting.
About Clarendon

All are welcome at Clarendon Presbyterian Church.  We are a community that tries to reflect the love and justice of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We invite all those with faith and with doubts to join us as seekers of God's amazing and inclusive grace and truth. We are at 1301 N. Saving graces

one for throwing into the ring,
one for talking through,
and one for pulling rabbits out of if elected."
