Worship Team Wants You!
| The worship team has some powerful plans in store for November and December that call for sharing some of our stories.
Now all we need is you and your stories.
In November we are shaping worship around hunger and God's provision. We'll use the Exodus story of manna in the wilderness as a starting place.
We're looking for your stories of a time when you received unexpected hospitality, when someone fed you when you needed it but didn't expect it. Or, the other way around: do you have a story of a time when you offered a timely, unexpected meal? Please send me a note this week letting me know if you have a story to share.
During Advent, we are looking for stories of unexpected gifts. Do you have such a story to share? Send me a note.

Remembering a Great Cloud Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse | October, 2010
|
Greetings!
We're jumping the gun just a bit this Sunday and remembering the great cloud of witnesses that surrounds us -- a moment of remembrance in advance of All Souls Day, which actually falls on Monday, Nov. 1. But it's appropriate for us to reflect on those who have brought us this far on the way on the Sunday when we elect new leaders and take a look at the preliminary budget -- a vision of the future in numbers. If you were unable to be with us in worship last week, I urge you to read the sermon. It is important that we understand the context in which we work, and I tried to lay that out last Sunday. I will say that reading it will be a pale imitation of being there not because of anything I did or said, but because I had struggled in writing to come to an end that reflects the hope I actually feel even in difficult circumstances. I walked into worship Sunday morning still not convinced that I was going to preach this sermon, but decided to go ahead. Lo and behold, just as I was getting to what I thought was the end, Gillian and Grant came in with their newborn baby girl, Sydney Susan, and other members of the family. With each newborn child the hope of the world is reborn, and the same is true with each community of faith. So with faith that God is with us always, we take the next step on our collective journey this Sunday, and you need to be part of it. The meditation is called "For All the Saints," and the text is selected verses from Hebrews 12. I hope to see you Sunday morning. Come and worship. peace,
DavidPS: Don't forget -- we're having a potluck brunch following worship. We'll hold our meeting between brunch and dessert. |

Sunday School: A Joyous Opportunity to Serve
Are you interested in getting to know some of the children in our congregation? You are in luck: We need Sunday School teachers!
Teaching on any given Sunday is no more than a 30-minute commitment including prep time. We are pulling the younger children out during the Sermon and presenting one of the lectionary readings for that day in "kids language" plus related activity (approx 15-20 min).
Prep time is 5-10 minutes at the most. Please consider this as a way to share your time and talents.
When the children are baptised, we all pledge to assist and guide them in their spiritual journeys and this is where they get started. The children are insightful, open and a pleasure to teach. You may even end up learning something too!

Fun Stuff Coming Your Way Soon!
The next Wii Kirk is on the church's calendar so mark yours! Friday, November 5, we'll gather in Wilson Hall to enjoy the artisan pizzas of Clark Chesser and Cheryl Lederle (AKA, Mr. and Ms. Pizza), play some games on the Wii, and have some good conversation.
We open the doors at 6:30 p.m. and the party usually goes till 9:00. So run, rush, drive -- do what you must -- but don't miss Wii Kirk! Share the joy: invite a friend.
Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to AFAC. Consider this your ticket to a good time!
The Lederle-Ensign clan also invites you to their annual cookie baking open house to celebrate the season of Advent. This year the cookie bake will be Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. We'll have a steaming pot of chili, and enough sugar, butter and flour to put a small army into a food coma. Mark your calendars!

Session Takes No Action on Irving St. House
The small task group that looked into the property that sits between the parking lot and the playground reported back to session last week, noting that the property should be sold as a tear down. The owner is asking $750,000. The county assesses the lot at approximately $500,000. Session agreed without dissent to take no further action at this time. We thank Reg Mitchel, Hal Logsdon, Tom Hull and Karen Kimmel for examining the property and the financial aspects of the opportunity.
