Many of you signed up to host coffee hour this fall, and the schedule is available as part of the church calendar on line. The week e-blast will also include a reminder.
We look forward to the culinary arts and hospitality of Ted Billings this Sunday morning.
Looking down the road, we still have open dates on October 10 and November 14 and 28.

Greetings!
Now wasn't that just a whole lot more fun?!? Sunday morning 50 of us gathered in worship. We raised our voices in praise. We had some provocative and powerful conversation. The word was read and proclaimed, and God was rightly praised. And it was just so much more lively than when only 30 of us gather. Oh, to be sure, when two or three are gathered, Christ is in our midst, and some remarkable things can happen. But when we're in a sacred space that seats more than a hundred, it's just more fun when it feels more full! So, let's do it again this week. I'll warn you, we are reading a passage of scripture that is sure to anger many, if not most of you: 1 Timothy 2:8-15. I'm calling the meditation, "Names Matters." Now, aren't you curious what we're going to do with this disturbing little piece of psuedo-Pauline text? Come and see. peace,
DavidP.S.: we're going to try to ring the church bell Sunday morning! |

Wii Kirk Returns!
No, it's not a pint-sized Star Fleet captain.
It's an evening of fun, food and fellowship featuring the pizza making skills of Clark Chesser and Cheryl Lederle (aka, Mr. and Ms. Pizza), the great big TV and a bunch of Wii video games, and several hours of good conversation.
It all begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 1, in Wilson Hall on the ground floor at church.
It's a drop-in, stay as long as you like kind of affair. It is also a great time to invite friends to enjoy the hospitality of CPC and get a taste of the community.
It is also a wonderful opportunity to step back into things at Clarendon if you've been on hiatus for a while.
So come out and play!

Sign Up Now for a Study or Spiritual Growth Group
Next month we will run a five-week series called Dream. Think. Be. Do. It's a DVD-based series from the Living the Questions folks. Starting with the foundation of "Love God with all your heart, soul,
strength, and mind" (Luke 10.27), DTBD should spur on our conversations about Christianity for the 21st century. I'm planning to hold these one-hour gatherings on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 beginning Oct. 5. Please let me know if you can be part of it. Also next month we will begin Creative Spirits, a men's spirituality group that will use as many creative and artistic expressions of our spirituality as we can come up with as a springboard to deeper spiritual lives. This one is still in the planning stage, so if you have ideas or suggestions about meeting times please let me and Ted Billings know. |
CPC to Host Story Telling Workshop October 2
"We
are not born knowing how to talk about our faith. It is not second-nature for
us to know how to speak faithfully, how to tell God's story amid all the other
stories crowding the landscape or our culture.
The ability to give useful and true testimony has to be acquired and
learned through experience," writes Thomas G. Long in Testimony: Talking Ourselves
into Being Christian. At CPC we have been practicing testimony in worship for several years. We don't call it that because "testimony" is one of those scary church words like "evangelism." But, friends, when you tell a story about your faith ... well, that's all testimony or evangelism really is. This workshop offers a fun way to learn to tell our own stories better. National Capital Presbytery is offering free one-day
workshops on storytelling to members of NCP congregations through SpeakeasyDC a local
nonprofit that teaches and promotes personal storytelling. See a video of workshop veterans here. Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., CPC is hosting one of the workshops.Register now by
