Gracias! & Help ...
| Thanks to Karen Kimmel for painting and spiffing up in preparation for David & Travis' wedding.
Thanks to everyone who brought food, drink or paper products to the picnic! We had a great time, and shared some good food.
We do not have a coffee hour host for this Sunday. If you can host, please let me know at revdocdee@gmail.com.
We've come to end of our sign up sheet and are now looking for volunteers for the fall. We'll have a sign up sheet at church this Sunday, so check your calendars and pick a Sunday that you can host. Hosting is easy, and involves bringing some goodies to eat, setting up the coffee pot, and cleaning things up after.

Now is the Time to Lead
| The nominating committee is talking with church members about leadership positions in the congregation, including serving on session. If you would like to suggest a candidate or would like to be considered, please send a note to Toni Bissessar.

Party Time!
| Our Session-sponsored "parties with a purpose" have begun, and the first one was a great deal of fun and produced some excellent ideas and reflections.
Over the next several weeks each member of session is going to host a small gathering of CPC community members. These gatherings will provide opportunity for relationship building and also for some good conversations about the future of CPC.
So please be on the lookout for a call or note from a session member inviting you to a small-group gathering, and please make every effort to join.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Celebrating the Gift of Work Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse
| September, 2010
|
Greetings!
Mark the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend with worship, as we celebrate the gift of good work. The text for the day is Jeremiah 18:1-11, and the meditation focuses on "The Potter's House." Consider these questions: what about your work is holy or sacred? where in your work do you feel the presence of the divine? Preparing for FallThis Sunday is our final worship before the fall kicks off with a potluck brunch following worship on September 12. In advance of that event, and to make it all a bit more fun, I'd greatly appreciate it if you would send me a note sharing one interesting but little-known tidbit about you -- perhaps some place you've been or job you've held or famous person you've had lunch with. These will all be grist for the mill of a CPC trivia game we'll play together at brunch. Speaking of brunch, if you can help with the set up at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11, please let me know. peace,

Congratulations David & Travis!
We celebrate this weekend with David Pitts and Travis Reindl as they are joined in holy matrimony at CPC.
Mazel tov!
As Paul said to the Christians in Rome, "Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with
mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour."
And may the peace of Christ be with you always.

Last call for CALL Sign Up Now for a Life Changing Seven Weeks
Take a seven-week journey of transformation this fall as CPC and the Center for Pastoral Counseling offer the next Life Direction Lab program. The fall group begins Sunday, Sept. 12, at 4:30 p.m. Deadline for registration is Sept. 7. Led by David and the Rev. Dr. Kevin Ogle, the CALL program offers and opportunity to explore your own sense of vocation through the lenses of personality type, communication styles, life experience, centering prayer and other practices and perspectives. Over the past several years about a third of CPC members have participated in a lab, and lives have been transformed in fascinating and faithful ways. The small groups always include non-church members as well, and the mix of backgrounds, faith stories and personalities is powerful. Whether you feel like you are on the edge of a new stage of your own journey, or if you're seeking further grounding for the present stage, the CALL program has something for you, and you have something for the group. Registration for the seven weeks is $350 for non-church members. Members of the CPC community can sign up for only $175. To register, or if you have any questions, please send me a note at revdocdee@gmail.com. |
Giving is Automatic ... Or, It Can Be!
Dar Davis, acting treasurer, suggests setting up automatic donations to CPC through your personal financial institution. Dar says, "It may be a little different depending on the bank/credit union process
used by each individual. Basically, you just go to your online banking
system, set-up Clarendon Presbyterian Church as a merchant account
without an account number; if your bank/credit union requires an
account, use your envelope number. Select the frequency you want a
check to be mailed to the church - there is generally an option for
weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly - and select that frequency.
Enter the amount you want to be sent each time and, if there's an
option, the day or date. For example, if you select the weekly option,
you should be able to enter which day you want the check sent
(Monday-Friday); if you select the monthly option, select the date each
month (for example, the 1st of the month or the 15th of the month).
Once you're satisfied with the information you've entered, submit for
payment."
Automatic giving is simple for you, and it helps CPC's cash flow, particularly in summer months.
