Now is the Time to Lead
The nominating committee is talking with church members about leadership positions in the congregation, including serving on session. If you would like to suggest a candidate or would like to be considered, please send a note to Toni Bissessar.
Gracias!!
Thanks to everyone who hosted coffee hour over the summer months. We've come to end of our sign up sheet and are now looking for volunteers for the fall. We'll have a sign up sheet at the picnic this Sunday, so check your calendars and pick a Sunday that you can host. Hosting is easy, and involves bringing some goodies to eat, setting up the coffee pot, and cleaning things up after.
Party Time!
Our Session-sponsored "parties with a purpose" begin this week.

Over the next several weeks each member of session is going to host a small gathering of CPC community members. These gatherings will provide opportunity for relationship building and also for some good conversations about the future of CPC.

So please be on the lookout for a call or note from a session member inviting you to a small-group gathering, and please make every effort to join.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Greetings!

This Sunday we take worship on the road as we head down to Mason Neck State Park for our annual church picnic and outdoor worship.

Meet up at church at 10:00 or meet us at the park at 11:00 for worship and a potluck picnic.

We will share some spirited conversation, sing praise to God and enjoy the beauty of God's good creation. It is supposed to be a nice day, so come out and celebration creation and our Creator.

The picnic marks the end of summertime, and there are lots of exciting plans in the works for fall at CPC. Come and check it out as we kick off the fall with worship and a potluck brunch Sunday, Sept. 12.

peace,

David
journeyFall CALL Program Set for September
Sign Up Now for a Life Changing Seven Weeks

Take a seven-week journey of transformation this fall as CPC and the Center for Pastoral Counseling offer the next Life Direction Lab program. The fall group begins Sunday, Sept. 12, at 4:30 p.m. Deadline for registration is Sept. 7.

Led by David and the Rev. Dr. Kevin Ogle, the CALL program offers and opportunity to explore your own sense of vocation through the lenses of personality type, communication styles, life experience, centering prayer and other practices and perspectives.

Over the past several years about a third of CPC members have participated in a lab, and lives have been transformed in fascinating and faithful ways. The small groups always include non-church members as well, and the mix of backgrounds, faith stories and personalities is powerful.

Whether you feel like you are on the edge of a new stage of your own journey, or if you're seeking further grounding for the present stage, the CALL program has something for you, and you have something for the group.

Registration for the seven weeks is $350 for non-church members. Members of the CPC community can sign up for only $175.

To register, or if you have any questions, please send me a note at revdocdee@gmail.com.
Cindy and CalvinGiving is Automatic ... Or, It Can Be!

Dar Davis, acting treasurer, suggests setting up automatic donations to CPC through your personal financial institution. Dar says, "It may be a little different depending on the bank/credit union process used by each individual. Basically, you just go to your online banking system, set-up Clarendon Presbyterian Church as a merchant account without an account number; if your bank/credit union requires an account, use your envelope number. Select the frequency you want a check to be mailed to the church - there is generally an option for weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly - and select that frequency. Enter the amount you want to be sent each time and, if there's an option, the day or date. For example, if you select the weekly option, you should be able to enter which day you want the check sent (Monday-Friday); if you select the monthly option, select the date each month (for example, the 1st of the month or the 15th of the month). Once you're satisfied with the information you've entered, submit for payment."

Automatic giving is simple for you, and it helps CPC's cash flow, particularly in summer months.

Saving graces

"Wherever we find the Word of God surely preached and heard,
and the sacraments administered according to the institution of Christ, there, it is not to be doubted, is a church of God."

~John Calvin
