Come and Worship ... Finally!
Progressive ... Inclusive ... Diverse
February 2010
Greetings!

metroWe are almost dug out from the storm, and with no more snow on the way until at least Monday we finally seem likely to worship and hold our "January" congregational meeting.

Presuming that we are able to gather Sunday is a big day in the life of CPC. We will celebrate the sacrament of communion. We'll have a potluck brunch following worship, and plan to include the rescheduled congregational meeting as part of the brunch.

Meanwhile, we're going to have a snow removing "party" come Saturday. If you can lend a hand please let me know and I'll share the details as soon as we pin it down. The parking lot is clear, but getting into the building remains a challenge.

I hope to see you this weekend.

peace,

David
Worship Week and Report on Fb Church

Worship Sunday morning will be rich and full, and remarably enough, it was that way last week as well even though we gathered virtually. cpc logo

Our texts for the day include Psalm 148; Matthew 5:43-47; Luke 12:54-56.

The sermon is "Shelter from the Storm." (As always, if you are not able to make it to worship you can still check out the sermon at the sermon blog.)

The young people will continue to lead us in mission this Sunday as they receive the annual Souper Bowl of Caring offering. If you don't know the story of this offering you should check out the history of an event begun 20 years ago by a Presbyterian youth group in South Carolina who raised a bit more than $5,000 their first year. Last year, across the country, more than $10 million was contributed to food support programs. The proceeds of our offerings Sunday go to the Arlington Food Assistance Center.

Facebook Church
Last we we gathered virtually at the CPC Facebook page for about a half hour of music, text, reflections and prayers. It was a surprisingly moving experience. You can go to the page and retrace the comments. The Call to Worship is now available on the CPC website. brief message and some questions for conversation.
AFAC Food Offering; Grocery Bagging

Sunday morning we receive our monthly food offering for AFAC. Any nonperishable good are welcome. Last month we donated 128 pounds of food. Let's see if we can top that this time. cpc logo

Monday evening we meet up down at AFAC (2708 S. Nelson) at 7:00 for our monthly time of bagging groceries.

Most months we gather for a simple meal at David and Cheryl's home after bagging. Due to the huge piles of snow, parking in the neighborhood is at a premium, so we are not going to host. However, Shirlington Village is right around the corner from AFAC, so heading to one of the eateries there is a distinct possibility.

If you've never been part of the bagging brigade, come and check it out. We have a good time, and there are lots of hungry families in Arlington who need food assistance.

Saving graces

"Religion is to do right. It is to love, it is to serve,
it is to think, it is to be humble."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
