Greetings!
First I apologize for failing to take full advantage of the technology this week. Second, I thank you all for your continued prayers and support as my siblings and I transition our parents into a new home. I've spent the week installing safety bars in showers, replacing fixtures, moving books and bookcases and so on.
But I did not want to miss out on connecting with you with a couple of quick reminders about Wii Kirk, worship and a few opportunities coming up soon.
So, here's all the news that fits ... into the few minutes of free wifi I found at a coffee shop overlooking the Tennessee River.
Grace and peace,
David

Pizza!!!!
Tonight is the first Wii Kirk of the season. It's Hallowiin at CPC!. Join your CPC friends at 6:30 this evening for a night of games, good eats and fine conversation.
Clark and Cheryl are making pizza. Bring any toppings you might like, and anything that goes with pizza that you'd like to share.
The Wii will be hooked up to the big-screen TV, and Wilson Hall will be transformed into a pizza parlor and Wii pool hall. The fun lasts till 9:00 or whenever folks drift off.

Upcoming Events ... Maybe
CPC has had an active women's group for several years. The group has typically met on the first Thursday of each month, but has been on hiatus since last spring.
Would you like to bring the group back from its break? Please let me know, and we'll spread the word and set a schedule.
We have also had a number of adult education series over the past several years, including a wonderful DVD-based program called "Saving Jesus," which we enjoyed last fall. I have access to another DVD-based program produced by the same people. This one is called "Living the Questions." Anybody interested? Please let me know and we'll plan accordingly.

Worship Week
Sunday is All Saints Day. We give thanks for the
saints of the church not because of what they can do for us, but because of
what Christ has already done through them. Whether we acknowledge biblical
figures like Abraham or Sarah, Mark or Mary, or more recent saints like a wise
parent, mentor, or teacher, we remember and are led to pray "all praise and
thanks to God." That - and a great tune - is why even Reformed Christians love
to sing For All the Saints.
The gospel story for the morning comes from Mark 12:28-34. The sermon is For the Love of God.
If you would like to join in worship leadership, please let me know. The word "liturgy" comes from the Greek meaning "the work of the people," and we believe that worship is a community act. Every aspect of worship belongs to each of us and all of us, so if you would like to lead in any aspect, speak up.

Saving graces
|
This week we All Saints day, and recall those saints of the faith that have gone before us. Some are famous -- the Martin Luthers and Martin Luther Kings -- some are known only to us. I recall a Sunday School teacher who helped me navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence. Whether well known or known only to God, we'll recall them and sing their praises. Speaking of which, did you know that the grand old hymn, For All the Saints, has eleven verses! We won't sing them all. For all the saints, who from their labors rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
.
