Redeem This As part of the newly adopted Credit CARD Act which went into effect last month (August 22), all establishments which sell gift cards, gift certificates, and pre-loaded Visa and American Express cards, must now abide by the new legislation set forth to protect consumers. The new Act established specific rules for which all issued gift cards and certificates must adhere. These rules include the following; limitations on inactivity and service fees from issued, all recipients are given at least 5 years after the date of issuance to redeem the card balance or at least 5 years after money has been added to the card--whichever is longer. All new cards and certificates purchased must include a disclosure statement specifying the amount of all fees, the expiration date, and a toll-free number where the consumer may call to receive more information. Note: these laws do not include reward or reloadable cards not intended for gift redemption. All cards produced prior to April 1, 2010, have been permitted by Congress for retail sale through January 31, 2011 and do require the new on-card disclosure statements. However, the new laws on expiration dates and fee limitations DO apply to existing cards and retailers are required to disclose such legislation protecting consumers' rights in a conspicuous area in their place of business. After January 31, 2011, all gift cards produced without disclosure statements will not be deemed eligible for sale. If you require additional information regarding the necessary legal information new gift cards must carry, please visit www.restaurant.org/legal . |

Client Spotlight; Moonshadows
Moonshadows opened nearly 40 years ago when Malibu was just a quiet surfer's paradise. Locals would stop in after a day at the beach, and tourists travelling up the coast, could stop for the freshest seafood in Los Angeles. Over the next several decades, Moonshadows remained a must for anyone visiting Malibu, but found itself a bit out of sync with the growing city of Malibu.
In 2000, Andrea Bullo left as the general manager of Prego in Beverly Hills with a vision of what he saw as the new Moonshadows. The demographics of Malibu had changed dramatically since the 70s, and Moonshadows had found itself a bit out of step. Bullo had a vision of a restaurant that stayed true to its Malibu roots, yet added an elegant and modern twist. The restaurant was given a makeover and the menu was rebuilt from scratch. Moonshadows still served the traditional burger, yet utilized ingredients such as Kobe beef and organic potatoes for their fries. The special was Turbot, and the wine selection, impeccable.
Los Angeles's response was immediate and resoundingly positive. The marriage of a coastal landmark with a modern style and a long list of celebrity clientele proved to be a winning combination for even the most discerning of palates.
During the summer months, Moonshadow's patio explodes with a life all its own as it features internationally known DJs serenading guests in its Blue Lounge as the sun sets over the Pacific. The menu has evolved to include a combination of Mediterranean and Asian influences, and the wine list has been awarded the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the last four years.
