Can I hang my glass on the wall?
Your client has a large, cut glass platter that they recently purchashed in Prague.  They would love to display this work on the wall, but do not want to use a shelf, wire or brackets. The Marta Hewett Gallery can provide a wonderful mounting system  that is simple, secure and remains out of sight. To receive additional information about this system, please contact the gallery.

Glass on the Wall for the Modernist

When considering artwork for a wall space, glass can be an exciting and dimensional alternative to a painting or print.  Pieces, such as Jamie Harris' Mod Series can be designed for any size space in endless composition. These blown and carved glass forms, which combine multiple layers of color, are ideal for any contemporary interior, residential or commercial. Beyond creating works which can be purchased directly from the gallery, Harris spends much time executing site specific installations for clients. " My work is greatly influenced by color theory and abstract concepts, rather than reflections on historical glass."  The gallery recently organized a dynamic commision piece for a customer in Houston and Harris was able to provide a palette of hundreds of glass colors from which to choose.  Layered and carved elements are $1,400 and solid forms are $400, which allows great budget flexibility, whether your space is 2' or 20'.
Classical Glass

Symphony, 48"h x 72"w x 5"d, blown/hot sculpted glass

Glass work can be appropriate for all types of interiors, including the most traditional.  Many glass artists, such as Czech sculptor, Martin Janecky, create representational pieces.  Janecky's inspiration comes from theatre and improvisational music.  Much of his glass work is oriented to be displayed on the wall.  Martin Janecky is another artist who is extremely comfortable creating commissioned works.  Each life size piece is blown at the furnace and then meticulously sculpted by hand while the glass remains molten.  The Marta Hewett Gallery was pleased to present this talented, young artist in his first solo exhibition in the United States in 2008.  With recent exhibitions in Berlin and Holland, Janecky continues to attract an international following.

The Marta Hewett Gallery is pleased to present 15 new glass works by Sungsoo Kim, in his first solo exhibit in the U.S. and the first formal exhibit in our new gallery space.  Inspired by the forms found in styrofoam packing, Sungsoo combines brilliantly colored, cast glass elements to create elegant, architectural sculpture.  After making a mold from the original, styrofoam forms, Kim recombines the new glass renditions and brings attention to the shape, space and texture of something we intially ignore and, ultimately, throw away.  Hence, his exhibit title, Rediscovery.  Sungsoo Kim was recently featured in American Craft Magazine as an emerging artist of note.  He currently teaches advanced glass casting and fusing at the Cleveland Institute of Art.  Rediscovery can be seen through May 15th.

The Marta Hewett Gallery is now located in the Annex at the Pendleton Art Center

We are pleased to annouce our new downtown location at 1310 Pendleton St. at the Pendleton Art Center.  The new gallery space offers expanded exhibition opportunities and the ability to show a larger group of inventory at all times by more artists.  We host six, formal rotating exhibits each year, which are presented in a secondary space, apart from works in inventory. The gallery is now open every Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm.
