5K Start

The 1st Annual BASF FINA Petrochemicals LIVE UNITED 5K Run/Walk in the Park and Kids 1K was a great success!  The event was held on Saturday, October 2 and the fall weather was a perfect setting for a run or walk in Port Neches Park.  It was exciting to see 219 children and adults line up to race.

Proceeds from the 2010 event will be used to fund 22 community partner organizations supported by the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County.  Planning for the 2011 BASF  FINA Petrochemicals LIVE UNITED 5K Run/Walk in the Park and Kids 1K has already begun.  Watch for more details in future newsletters from UW MSJC!

WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL LITERACY

With the urgent need for financial literacy in today's economy, UW MSJC, along with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation hosted a training and consumer education workshop.

Money Smart Train-the-Trainer workshop was held at the Port Arthur Public Library on Thursday, September 23, 2010.  The workshop gave practical experience in training youth and adults about financial literacy.  The Money Smart Train-the Trainer is designed to train interested parties in teaching financial education to their constituencies.

COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT STUDY

This summer, UW MSJC conducted a Community Needs Assessment Study (CNA) in order to identify the most critical needs in the Mid and South Jefferson County area.  The UW MSJC will use the information from the CNA as a tool in determining funding for existing programs provided by partner agencies, as well as new programs and initiatives that address unmet or under-met needs.
