| SIGN IN AND PARKING RULES | |
Sign-in and Parking Rules
To better ensure the safety of our students, we are instituting and enforcing the following policies, effective immediately:
Visitor Sign-in
Other than parents dropping off or picking up a child, any visitor(including parents) must sign in and get a name tag at the front desk upon arrival on campus. If a faculty or staff member sees a visitor or parent on campus without a name tag, the faculty or staff member has been instructed to escort that person to the front office to sign in.
Drop-off & Pick-up
Morning drop off and afternoon pick up for grades Preschool - 12 is the main entrance circleonly.
Student & Parent Parking
The gym parking lot is reserved for CCS Staff and CCS Seniors only from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Please do not park in this lot, as there are only enough spaces for those mentioned above. All other students and parents should park in the one-way gravel lot next to the main entrance circle. Please enter this lot at the beginning of the circle and exit this lot at the other end near the playground and drive around behind the lot to exit. This new plan has proven to maximize safety for students and vehicles during rush hour times. Also, please adhere to all stop signsand ask your student drivers to do the same. We are awaiting new signs to clearly mark these areas.
After School Policy for MS/US Students
Middle and Upper school students remaining on campus after 3:30 pm that are not involved in athletics or specific after school programs should sign in with Ms. Selby in the library until 4:30 and with the C-Club teachers from 4:30-5:30. Students should stay in the library with Ms. Selby or with anotherassigned teacher until a parent arrives to pick them up in order to assure their safety.
Our priority is the safety of our students. We appreciate your cooperation with the above policies! |
| WINTERIM | |
Dear Middle School Parents:
The fifth through eighth grade winterim trip will be to the Camp Greenville Outdoor Environmental Education Center in Cedar Mountain, NC March 23 - 25, 2011. We will leave school at 7:00am on Wednesday March 23, and return for regular dismissal on Friday March 25.
This trip is designed to incorporate aspects of our science curriculum with outdoor education. In addition, winterim is unique because it exposes the students to the environment and our ecology, with many of the activities taking place outdoors. For instance, students will be participating on hikes to learn about the ecology and environment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. To add, students will gain experience orienteering, making night sky observations, leadership, team building, and other outdoor adventure activities (please refer to the next page for more information about the Greenville Outdoor Environmental Education Center). Every student is expected to attend, as this trip is a regular part of the curriculum.
The cost of the trip is $150.00, which includes lodging, activities, transportation and all meals and snacks. Students will be sleeping in heated cabins with bunk beds; the boys and girls will be in separate cabins. Attached, you will find medical release forms, a packing list and itinerary detailing your child's experience. Please sign the form below and return it along with the medical release form and full payment (made payable to CCS) to Mr. Hemingway no later than March 18. If you have any questions please email Mr. Hemingway at bhemingway@charlestoncollegiate.org. |
| CCS ANNUAL AUCTION | |
Don't forget to RSVP for the auction this week! You have until next Monday to purchase tickets and tables at a discounted rate. The ticket cost increases in March. Can't wait to see you at the auction! |
| SPRING OPEN HOUSE | |
CCS is excited to launch a new format for our Spring Open House. Prospective students and parents will be introduced to our education philosophy and actually experience a CCS class in action. Teachers will explain their lesson goals and discuss why our approach reflects education in the 21st century.
Please invite your friends and family to learn why CCS is leading the revolution in 21st century education. Contact Tiffany Frank at tfrank@charlestoncollegiate.org for reservations. |

| PENNIES FOR PEACE | |
Pennies for Peace
We are excited to share with you that our students will participate in a Pennies for Peace campaign from now until May!
Pennies for Peace is a program of the Central Asia Institute (CAI), founded by Greg Mortenson - author of Three Cups of Tea. CAI is nonprofit organization that promotes and provides education and literacy programs in remote mountain regions of Central Asia. Since 1998, CAI has helped to build over 100 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Pennies for Peace program goal is to encourage our students, who are ultimately our future leaders, to learn the value of philanthropy by collecting pennies for global peace. We hope to empower students by making them the leaders of this effort, and encourage them to get creative in raising funds for education.
Students may donate pennies in Mrs. Ferris' office, or through Middle School student government. 100% of donations will go to the Pennies for Peace program, and Blue and Gold teams will also be awarded points for the most pennies!
We are partnering in this mission with other Charleston independent schools, with a mission to raise awareness and funds for peace through education. We will culminate our campaign with a Peace Fair on May 7, from 3-6pm! More details will follow!
If you have any questions about our Pennies for Peace campaign, please feel free to contact Patricia Ferris, pferris@charlestoncollegiate.org, or Kate Williams, kwilliams@charlestoncollegiate.org.
Our students are eagerly looking forward to this new adventure! |
