| FROM THE SEARCH COMMITTEE | |
The Head Search Committee continues to finalize its decision on a new Head for CCS. In this process, the visit to the campus by a candidate gives him or her a glimpse of the state of the school and a sense of its spirit and commitment to its mission. Before "jumping into the fire," a period of discovery must take place during which issues are discussed, goals and plans are formulated and a comfort level is achieved by both parties. During this stage of the process, it is not uncommon for a candidate and/or a Board to realize that moving forward would not be in the best interest of the school or the candidate. Ultimately, this process should yield a Head who knows what is expected and has the confidence and tools to succeed.
We felt fortunate that all three of our finalists had extensive headship experience and all could pick the ball up from Dr. Shirley and advance the wonderful program that he has built. We hope to have a selection in two weeks and look forward to welcoming a new Head of School to Charleston Collegiate.
Thank you for your patience, and do not hesitate to call Bill McTighe, Head of the Search Committee, with your thoughts or concerns. He can be reached at 813-9947 or bmctighe@wheeler-ind.com. |

| PARKING RULES | |
Parents, morning drop off and afternoon pick up for grades Preschool - 12 is the main entrance circle. Student and parent parking is the one-way gravel lot. Please enter this lot at the beginning of the circle and exit this lot at the other end near the playground and drive around behind the lot to exit. The gym parking lot is reserved for Staff and CCS Seniors from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Please do not park here unless you are on the staff or are a senior as there is only enough space for those people. This new plan has proven to maximize safety for students and vehicles during rush hour times. Also, please adhere to all stop signs. We are awaiting new signs for all areas.
Middle and Upper school students remaining on campus after 3:30 pm that are not involved in athletics or specific after school programs, should sign in with Ms. Selby in the library until 4:30 and with the C-Club teachers from 4:30-5:30. Students should stay in the library or with the assigned teachers until a parent arrives to pick them up in order to assure additional safety. |

| DRESS CODE | |
At CCS, our dress code reflects the mission of our school and our goal of preparing students for the real world. We believe that it is important for students to look neat and to care about their appearance, since it is an important factor in making a positive first impression. We also believe that a dress code promotes a positive educational environment - one where the primary focus is on learning. Finally, we believe that a dress code promotes equality among the students and reduces opportunities for teasing and bullying. Now that the weather has cooled off, we just wanted to remind you of the uniform guidelines that pertain to cold weather clothing and outerwear.
- Only solid white, navy, or black tights or socks may be worn.
- Only plain white or navy shirts may be worn as undershirts.
- Sweatshirts with hoods are not permitted.
- Approved outerwear includes: navy crew-neck sweatshirt, v-neck pullover sweater, v-neck cardigan sweater, or front zipper fleece with the school logo. Solid black, gray, or navy crew-neck sweatshirts, sweaters, fleece, or jackets without designs, hoods, or logos may be worn upon approval from the appropriate division head.
Thank you very much for helping us to encourage our students to look their very best! |

| LOCKS OF LOVE | |
Locks of Love - Join us in giving! We've set a date! Ms. Murphy and Mrs. Williams will donate their hair to Locks of Love on Thursday, December 9th! If you plan to participate in donating, make your hair appointment now. We will take "before and after" pictures on Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th! Over a million children in the U.S. suffer from medical conditions that cause hair loss. You are invited to help! Mrs. Williams and Ms. Murphy plan to grow their hair to donate this winter and would love for CCS teachers, students, and parents to join in giving a gift to Locks of Love! Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Your gift can help restore self-esteem and confidence for these special children. Please see the Locks of Love website, www.locksoflove.org, for more information on this charity's mission, how to give, and requirements for hair donation. Questions? Email kwilliams@charlestoncollegiate.org.
