UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

On Thursday, Oct. 14, the seniors will be spending the day sailing on the Spirit of South Carolina, courtesy of a generous grant received by the school. During the sail they will learn about marine biology, navigation, history, and also participate in team-building exercises. The grant allows us to take each Upper School class on the boat for one day: the 9th and 10th grades will be sailing on Oct. 28 and the juniors will sail on Nov. 1. All students should meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Charleston Maritime Center, 10 Wharfside Street, Charleston.

RACE FOR THE CURE

10th grade girls and other members of the SWAT (Students Wanting A cure Today) will be participating in the Race for the Cure on Daniel Island this Saturday at 8 am.  Please come down and show your support and come and see all the flowers that girls have decorated throughout the year as their community service project.  Flowers can be seen as part of Susie's Garden near the start of the race.  CCS students have been responsible for decorating around 250 of the 350 flowers that were purchased.  Come and check out their hard work and beautiful flowers!

CCS FAMILY NIGHT CAMP OUT

Our first camp out of the year was a great success! We had over 75 people show up for the activities and movie with 35 of those brave enough to rough it for the camping. We would like to thank, Stewart Bowers, Tyler Swain, Jenny Moya, Alex Westmoreland, and Ian Sanchez for volunteering their time to educate parents and students about the environment in our outdoor classroom. We were able to raise $265 for the outdoor classroom through activities, camping, and a raffle prize from Barrier Island Eco-Tours. Our next scheduled movie/camp out will take place on November 12th starting at 4:00. More details are to follow. We'd also like to know what you thought about the evening. Please offer any suggestions to make our next camp out an even greater success.

Thanks for everyone's support and we look forward to seeing you soon.

DONUTS FOR DADS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS
Donuts for Dads and Special Friends
Please join your child in the Lower School for Donuts for Dads and Special Friends on Tuesday, October 12 from 8:00-9:00.

FALL CARNIVAL
Our annual Fall Carnival is on Friday, October 29th from 11:30-3:00.  This is a fun day with hayrides, jump castles, lots of game booths, dunking booth, great food and much more!

This event is for the Lower and Middle school children (although we even see some of the high school students enjoying themselves.) Please feel free to invite your family and friends who might enjoy the day with you and your child.  We need lots of volunteers to help with this event.  We schedule shifts in 30 minute increments so you can have play time with your child(ren) and also socialize with other parents.  This is a great day to get to know some of our newer families and mingle.  If you are interested in helping with this event or have any questions, please contact Tiffany Frank at tfrank@charlestoncollegiate.org.  We will have fliers coming home with your children on Wednesday, October 13th and 20th with all of the details.  Hope to see you there!

GINGERBREAD HOUSE
Gingerbread House Requests

During the week of December sixth, the little green trailer on campus, turns into a holiday boutique for the lower school students. They will come with their class to do their secret shopping for family and friends. We are asking parents that if during their fall cleaning, they consider donating new or nearly new items to this endeavor. Currently, we are in need of gifts for dads, grandpas and older brothers, but any resalable merchandise will be appreciated. Nothing will be priced over $5, and also, consider that items need to take up just a little bit of table space, so no over-sized items please. You may drop donations in the front lobby, and label them "Gingerbread House."
There are also opportunities for parents to get involved during that week, by volunteering their time to a myriad of elfly duties. If you're interested in joining in, please contact Lois Daughtridge at 708-8972, or email: loisdaughtridge@me.com.

TEAM SHOP
The Charleston Collegiate Team Shop is now open. Please look in the "Latest News" section of the school's website and click on the "Check out the CCS Team Shop" link. Please support our athletic department by selecting, decorating, and purchasing  any of the listed items. The Team Shop will close on September 30 to allow for processing all orders placed by the deadline. Once all orders are processed, the Team Shop will reopen.

Please contact the Athletic Director, Jay Godbolt at 559-5506 x 225 if you have questions.
Have a great week,
