| 5TH & 6TH GRADE AFTER SCHOOL PICK UP- NEW POLICY | |
In order to help ensure the safety of your child, we are beginning a new policy for the after school pick-up of 5th and 6th grade students. If your child will be getting picked up between 3:00 and 3:30, he or she will be waiting in front of the Lower School entrance as usual. In order to help make sure that your child goes home with the correct person, please send the name of the person who will normally be picking up your child to Julie Balliet in the front office ASAP. 5th and 6th grade students should check out with the teachers on Middle School carpool duty who can then be sure that your child is placed in the car with the correct person. If someone else is picking up your child on a given day, please notify Julie Balliet in the front office. Also, if your child is planning to go home with a friend after school, you need to notify the school and let Julie Balliet know who your child will be leaving with. She will provide this information to the teacher on carpool duty so that he/she can check the identification of that person and help you to make sure that your child is going home with the correct adult. After 3:30, students still on campus and not involved in an after school practice or activity, will be with Ms. Selby in the library. You may pick them up there. Again, we ask that you notify the front office if someone out of the ordinary will be picking up your child. Ms. Selby will be with students until 4:30 at which time they will be sent to C-Club and you will be charged the normal C-Club hourly rate. Your child's safety is our #1 concern! Thank you for your cooperation in this effort. Please contact Gretchen Batalis with any questions.
|
| LOWER SCHOOL SPIRIT SQUAD | |

As the season advances, the students will scrimmage each other. Charleston Collegiate's goal is to provide children in grades one through six with the basic fundamental skills of basketball, while stressing sportsmanship and fun, over outcome. This schedule may change depending on the amount of students participating in the program. We look forward to hearing from you and celebrating your child's success in sports. | FROM THE LIBRARY | |
Charleston Collegiate Library will display banned and challenged books for Banned Books Week 9/25/10 - 10/02/10. We will set aside a bookcase laden with these contentious tomes. On many of the titles we've included slips of commentary about why the books were banned and/or challenged. The importance of this observance brings to mind the title of an Agatha Christie mystery, "And Then There Were None." When books are banned, burned, or challenged, where does it all end? The array of possibilities is firmly rooted in the First Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Visit the school or local library and regale your mind with the dangerous, seditious, and inappropriate...read a book. |
| UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT CRISIS MINISTRIES | |
Upper School Students Danielle Buck, Jamey Mears, and Thalia Orozco recently visited Crisis Ministries in downtown Charleston to prepare meals for over 200 of our neighbors in need. The students worked hard to prepare a variety of hot foods, salads, desserts, and bread and then served the meals to the guests. CCS students will continue to prepare and serve meals once a month at Crisis Ministries throughout the school year; any Upper School student is welcome to sign up to participate with Ms. Pendleton.
