MEET THE CANDIDATES
The Search Committee has selected three candidates to visit the school as a final stage of the Head selection process for the 2011/12 school year when Dr. Shirley will be retiring.

All parents will have the opportunity to meet our first candidate on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, at 2:00pm in the cafe.
Candidates will speak briefly about their educational philosophy and experience, with plenty of time for Q&A.  Meeting parents is an important part of the Head's own assessment of their fit with our school - your presence demonstrates your interest in the future of CCS. A member of the Search Committee will meet with parents after the session to hear your impressions, thoughts and concerns.

The remaining candidates will visit on SEPTEMBER 30 and OCTOBER 7, same time and place.  YOU are a very important part of this process!  Please plan to attend.
SUN DEVIL OF THE WEEK
Josh Griffin and Jack Poore were nominated for upper and middle school Sundevil of the Week. Josh was recognized for always being so polite, and full of school spirit. Jack was nominated for being an excellent leader during leadership activities, and for being so well mannered. Congratulations to both!

Lower School Sun Devil of the Week is Sean Monahan in Kindergarten. He was chosen because he is an awesome friend to his peers. He is always cheerful and uses great manners! .

ERB TESTING
This week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, September 20, 21, and 22, students in grades 2-10 will be taking the CTP4 tests designed by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).  These standardized tests assess students in verbal and quantitative reasoning as well as in reading comprehension and mathematics.  CCS uses these tests to help us in planning our curriculum and to determine in what areas individual students need further assistance or extra challenge.  As the ERB describes on their website:

This test is designed as a "low-stakes" exam, the purpose of which is to test what a student knows at a given point in time, in order to identify strengths and weaknesses. It is intended to help teachers and administrators make decisions about classroom instruction. As such, there are no preparatory materials available for it. This makes the test a more accurate reflection of the student's knowledge, and makes it a better diagnostic tool.  http://www.erbtest.org/parents/

The results of your son or daughter's performance on the CTP4 tests will be discussed with you during a future parent/teacher conference.   In the Lower School the classroom teachers will determine testing times.  In the Middle and Upper School these tests will be administered in the mornings and a revised class schedule will be followed in the afternoons.  Since 11th and 12th grade students do not take these exams, they may arrive to school at 10:15 in time for the first class period.  Please help your child achieve success on these tests by ensuring that they eat a nutritious breakfast and get a good night's sleep!  If you have any additional questions, you may contact your Division Head.
