BLUE AND GOLD TEAMS AT CCS BLUE = 85 POINTS GOLD = 225 POINTS | |
This year at CCS, each student has been assigned to either the Blue Team or the Gold Team. They will be competing in events all year long to try to win points for their team. These events may be school-wide, or they may span a single division, or even just one class. The events will range from the physical (a kickball game), to the academic (a writing contest), all the way to the artistic (a yearbook cover contest). The winning teams will receive recognition and a grand prize at the end of the year. The culminating event is a school-wide field day. These teams are a wonderful way for students of all ages to get to know one another. Blue and Gold t-shirts are still available for purchase, and the cost is $5 per t-shirt. Middle School students should give their money to Mrs. Batalis; Upper School students should give their money to Mrs. Boyd.
The first blue/gold spirit dress down day is this Friday, September 10th to cheer on the football players at our first pep rally. This year students will be allowed to wear their blue or gold CCS t-shirt and jeans (in good repair) for all dress down days. No other shirts will be permitted for dress down days. If students decide not to wear their blue/gold t-shirt, then they should be dressed in the regular school uniform. Be sure to buy your t-shirts now so that your son or daughter can participate in the dress down day this Friday!
Also this Friday is an all-school Blue/Gold competition at the first home football game! Each student will receive a blue or gold token, and the students should wear their blue/gold t-shirts to the game and drop their token in the appropriate jar. The winning team will be announced at half time! |
| 9TH GRADERS MAKE GLOBAL CONNECTIONS | |
The ninth graders in Ms. Pendleton's Applied Technology class are supporting small-business entrepreneurs through microloans. Using Kiva.org and funds supplied by the teacher, the students each chose one entrepreneur from another country to support. Learning about microfinance is part of the curriculum in which students create their own nonprofit organizations. Check out their lender's page at: http://www.kiva.org/lender/ccs or come see their bulletin board outside of the computer lab! |

| LOCKS OF LOVE | | Locks of Love - Join us in giving! Over a million children in the U.S. suffer from medical conditions that cause hair loss. You are invited to help! Mrs. Williams and Ms. Murphy plan to grow their hair to donate this winter and would love for CCS teachers, students, and parents to join in giving a gift to Locks of Love! Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Your gift can help restore self-esteem and confidence for these special children. Please see the Locks of Love website, www.locksoflove.org, for more information on this charity's mission, how to give, and requirements for hair donation. Questions? Email kwilliams@charlestoncollegiate.org.
