FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Parents, I hope you are enjoying the summer with your children. The
opening of the 2010-2011 school year is rapidly approaching, and we are excited
to begin the new year! I want to inform you of some summer happenings here at
Charleston Collegiate.
First, we are underway with repairs in the gymnasium due to
water damage from heavy storms, poor drainage, and problematic HVAC ductwork.
We were aware of the moisture under the gym floor which instigated the repairs,
but the recent discovery of moisture in the walls from the HVAC ductwork was an
unpleasant surprise. We are working with several contractors (including sports
floor and HVAC specialists) to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, as
well as take the appropriate measures to prevent future flooding and leaking.
However, since doing so involves applying for permits and insurance claims, the
process is taking longer than originally anticipated. Therefore, we are extremely disappointed to report that the gym will not be open when school starts in August. We are currently working on
an alternative plan for Parent Orientation on August 16th and will
inform you of the changes as soon as they are in place. On a related note, we are pleased to announce that we have
hired Jennifer Eaddy to coach Volleyball and Girls' JV Basketball this year.
Jennifer has been coaching at the college level and played both college
basketball and volleyball. We are excited for her to come work with our girls,
and we will be in touch with the parents of these athletes in the near future
with plans for practice times and location. Sincerely, Dr. Robert J. Shirley, PhD Head of School
