Greetings!
We are coming to the very busy weeks at the end of the school year,
with weekly events such as performances, awards ceremonies, and
graduations. For your convenience, an expanded "Upcoming Events" list has been added to the sidebar of these announcements (at left). Please note that this list is not exhaustive: you are encouraged to utilize the main calendar on the CCS website to insure you have all relevant events marked on your personal calendars.
The first article by new CCS student journalist Ben Schaffer (11th grade) appeared in Thursday's Post & Courier. You can read an online version of his article here. Congratulations, Ben!
After a scary near-miss at the intersection of Academy Drive and Plow Ground Road on Friday afternoon, CCS reminds ALL DRIVERS - parents, students, and faculty - to obey the stop sign at the end of Academy Drive. Pulling straight out onto Plow Ground Rd. without stopping is very dangerous for CCS drivers as well as the many cars and large trucks that frequent that busy road. Please drive carefully!
Middle School students Andre Coaxum, Josh Leutz, Laddie Smith, Carlos Rodriguez-Ventura, Will Simmons, Michael McCann, Conor McCarty, and Mhairi Keehn take a break from the Green Week student-teacher kickball game on April 23rd. Middle & Upper School students were rewarded with the Friday afternoon kickball game after successfully reducing the
amount of waste generated in the CCS lunchroom as part of a Green Week
composting effort led by Middle School science teacher Bobby Hemingway.
If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to contact the front office to insure we have their correct e-mail address. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org. |

LOWER SCHOOL SPRING CONCERT
|
|
Tuesday, May 11th at 6:30pm
Dear Parents,
Just a reminder that your children will be participating in the musical productions "Arf!", or "How to Be a Pirate" on Tuesday, May 11th. The children should come dressed in their costumes and arrive at 6:00pm and report to their regular classroom. This way the children can finish getting into costume and have a chance to warm-up while parents find seating. The costume lists have been posted to the CCS website. If you have any questions or problems finding these items, feel free to email me at rknox@charlestoncollegiate.org.
Mrs. Shears and I would like to do a mural of the children with their family pets for grades Preschool-3rd. Please send in a photo with your child, or email a photo to your child's teacher and we will print it out.
I am very excited about this show! Thanks so much in advance.
Sincerely, Rebecca Knox

Spring Picture Orders Due May 10th!
Proofs for spring pictures (taken in early April) have been distributed to LS homeroom teachers and MS/US advisors. If your child had a spring picture taken, you should review the proof and decide what photo package you'd like to order. Order forms with payment are due Monday, May 10th. LS students should return theirs to their teachers; MS/US students can return theirs to the front office. Remember: picture orders are also a fundraiser for the school, so any photo package you order also helps CCS.
If you have any questions about ordering, please contact Ms. Pelzer. For general question about the photos, please contact Strawbridge Studios customer service at 1-800-326-9080.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR MS/US
|
|
Wondering what your Upper or Middle School student is going to do this summer? On our website is a list of summer opportunities for middle and high school students -- including academic, artistic, international, and outdoor experiences. This list has been compiled from information sent to the College Counselor; some brochures are also available for viewing in Ms. Pringle's room. (For more information, please visit the website for the individual programs.)
Click here to view the list posted on the CCS website.

LOST & FOUND BIN
|
|
All students and parents should check the Lost & Found in the rear of the café weekly. The Lost & Found bin will be emptied every two weeks. If
a child's name is not in uniform clothing (a silver Sharpie works well
for marking dark items), these items will be washed and resold by the
Parents' Association.

H1N1 FLU SYMPTOMS & VACCINE INFORMATION
|
|
We continue to have confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu at the school. To help identify this flu strain's symptoms (vs. regular flu or common cold), please see the H1N1 Flu symptom chart posted to the CCS website.
DHEC Vaccine Clinics DHEC has recommended that we strongly encourage all of our parents to call 953-0090 to schedule vaccination appointments ASAP. The vaccination is available at DHEC free clinics: the sooner our families call, the easier it will be to get an appointment, and the safer the campus will be for all of us. Please call and schedule an appointment for your child to receive a free vaccination ASAP.
School Policy An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a
student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being
fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.
