MARCH 22, 2010
Greetings!
Campus may seem a little more quiet than usual this week, but there are many exciting things going on -- including Middle & Upper School Winterim, Lower School Spring Feast, and the countdown to Spring Break! (See announcements below for more information about Winterim and the Spring Feast.)

LS field day
Lower School students had a blast at their annual Field Day on Thursday, March 18th. (Above: Members of the Yellow Team cheer on their teammates.)

If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to contact the front office to insure we have their correct e-mail address. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org.
WINTERIM (MS/US)
sailing winterimThis Week!
Middle and Upper School Winterim programs are in full swing and our students are now spread out across the campus . . . the region. . . the planet! Our Middle Schoolers are spending the early part of the week at the Barrier Island Environmental Education Center. On Wednesday they will go on a carriage ride and an "Amazing Race" scavenger hunt of historic downtown Charleston. Thursday and Friday will dedicated to outdoor education, leadership training, and community service.

CCS 9th graders are aboard the tall ship Spirit of South Carolina and though the first day for the boys was a bit rainy, it looks like pretty smooth sailing for the rest of the week. Other Upper Schoolers are exploring the Galapagos Islands and camping in the North Carolina mountains. The campus has been transformed into a university as one group of students learns what it really takes to be college-level scholar-athletes. Another group is going through the rigors of "Iron Chef Charleston." All around campus this week, there will be singers, drummers, dancers, and painters as part of the Awesome Arts Extravaganza. Finally, many students have arranged individual internships including community service opportunities, career explorations, and projects in connection with Senior Exhibition. It is certainly an exciting week here at CCS!

(For information about all the different Upper School Winterim programs, view the US Winterim catalog on the CCS website.)

SAT/ACT Prep Course
A combination S.A.T. / A.C.T. prep class will be held from 9:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, April 24th. The fee is $50. Please see Mrs. Sharpe for details and registration form.

For more information about any of the above, please contact Mrs. Boyd at eboyd@charlestoncollegiate.org or 559-5506 x229.
LOST & FOUND BIN
All students and parents should check the Lost & Found in the rear of the café weekly. The Lost & Found bin will be emptied every two weeks. If a child's name is not in uniform clothing (a silver Sharpie works well for marking dark items), these items will be washed and resold by the Parents' Association.
H1N1 FLU SYMPTOMS & VACCINE INFORMATION
sickWe continue to have confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu at the school. To help identify this flu strain's symptoms (vs. regular flu or common cold), please see the H1N1 Flu symptom chart posted to the CCS website.

DHEC Vaccine Clinics
DHEC has recommended that we strongly encourage all of our parents to call 953-0090 to schedule vaccination appointments ASAP. The vaccination is available at DHEC free clinics: the sooner our families call, the easier it will be to get an appointment, and the safer the campus will be for all of us. Please call and schedule an appointment for your child to receive a free vaccination ASAP.

School Policy
An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.
Have a great week,
