Greetings! It's not too late to purchase your tickets for this weekend's Inside Kiawah's Finest Home Tour! For more information on the Tour, ticket sales, or volunteer opportunities, please see the announcement below.
On Friday, Feb. 12th, the Lower School will welcome grandparents & grand friends to its annual Grandparents Day from 12:00 to 2:45pm. In addition to classroom activities, there will be an art show of mini masterpieces created by our "Little Masterpieces" (Lower School children) on display that day. Please stop in to see them!
Everyone is invited to go to www.crayola.com and view the gallery of art submitted by our 4th and 5th graders -- as well as students from all over the US -- as part of the Crayola Dream-Makers Art Exhibition. You can view some of the other CCS student artwork submissions here.
We are thrilled to announce that James Michael Mears will be taking over as head football coach next year. Mike was a football letterman and team captain at both Leas-McRae College (1981-1982) and Georgia Southern University (1983-1984). Mike has coached several teams throughout his career and has made the playoffs every year of coaching varsity football, including three times as the head coach at Heathwood Hall (1991-1995). In addition to coaching at Heathwood, he has also coached at Columbia High School and in the Camden County School System and the Franklin County School System. We are very lucky to have him join our team and look forward to a great season next year!
If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to contact the front office to insure we have their correct e-mail address. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org. |

Students will be donating all proceeds to Water Missions International to bring clean water to earthquake victims in Haiti.

Intramural Soccer
It's not too late to sign up for CCS intramural soccer! All students in grades 1-5 are welcome. Soccer will start on Tuesday February 9th at 3:00pm. CCS parent Stephen Anthony has volunteered his time and talent to coach our children.
Practice will be every Tuesday and Wednesday (weather permitting), from 3:00 until 4:30. This gives the children that stay for extra help the chance to get their work done and still have an hour for practice. Students are welcome to practice both days or just one of the days, depending on their other commitments. Coach Anthony will be working on the fundamentals of the sport and at the same time you children will have a great time.
If you child has a soccer ball and would like to bring it to practice that would be great!
Seeking Tennis Rackets We're also seeking GENTLY-USED (not broken!) tennis rackets for donation to the CCS athletic dept. Please give them to Ms. Sowers.
Please contact Charlotte Smith at 843-607-9484 with any questions. |

PROJECT LEARNING TREE & GREENSCHOOLS!
|
|
Charleston Collegiate School has had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Project Learning Tree this school year. PLT is an environmental program that provides hands-on, interdisciplinary activities to students and helps them learn how to think, not what to think.
Another aspect of PLT is Greenschools!, which consists of a group of team members including students and teachers to conduct five environmental investigations of our school to find ways for us to have less of an environmental impact in our world. Teachers Jodie Haynie, Jess Evans, Molly Olson and students Stuart Bowers, Tyler Swain, Alex Westmoreland, and Mary Grace Bowers traveled to Kershaw, SC on Feb. 4th & 5th to attend the Greenschools! Workshop. Here, we learned how to conduct the investigations. After we finish the five investigations which include; Energy, Waste and Recycling, Water, the School Site, and Environmental Quality, the students will implement an action plan to help our school improve an environmental aspect using the results of investigations.
The service learning project/s will be student driven and we'll have the opportunity to apply for $6,000 to help us with following through with the project/s. We also received $1,000 worth of equipment to help us with the investigations. PLT and the Greenschools! team look forward to this endeavor which will have results that will last for years to come.
For more information about Project Learning Tree and Greenschools!, please visit www.plt.org.

2010-2011 School Year
Financial Aid Financial Aid applications are available at the front desk or in the Business Office. You may complete the application online at http://sss.nais.org. This year, you must submit your tax returns and other documentation directly to SSS, not to the school. This link will provide you with a cover sheet to print and submit with these documents. See below for deadlines relating to Financial Aid.
Important Changes for Monthly Tuition Payers After this year, monthly tuition payments will no longer run from August through May. For the 2010-2011 school year, payments will begin in July 2010 and end in April 2011 and will be due on the 5th of each month, not the 10th. This is a necessary change for the school's accounting system.
Important Dates & Deadlines January 29, 2010: Deadline for early enrollment discount (up to 5% for payment in full) extended until Friday January 29th! Re-enrollment contracts will only be accepted with a tuition deposit or payment in full (see payment plan options on back of contract). February 15, 2010: Deadline for ALL re-enrollment contracts with deposits for guaranteed placement for your child(ren) for the 2010-2011 school year. After this date, enrollment will be opened to new students. **CCS will hold a place for financial aid applicants if complete applications are received by this date.** March 5, 2010: Financial aid award letters mailed to those who completed the process by February 15th. After this date, financial aid awards are given on a first-come, first-served basis. March 20, 2010: Deadline for re-enrollment contracts and deposits from financial aid awardees.
If you have any questions, please contact Kendall Reilly in the Business Office.

sign up with Mrs. Boyd or Ms. Pringle prior to the meeting in order to have
permission to attend: University of Alabama - Feb. 24, 8:30am.
FAFSA Information Please see the
following link to a Boston Globe article
for useful information about FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid):
FAFSA information This
is especially important for parents of seniors, but it will be helpful for Upper
Schol parents, since everyone will have to fill this out before a child goes to
college.
SAT/ACT Prep Course A
combination S.A.T. / A.C.T. prep class will be held from 9:00am - 1:00pm on
Monday, Feb. 15th and again on Saturday, April 24th. The fee is $50. Please

LOST & FOUND BIN
|
|
All students and parents should check the Lost & Found in the rear of the café weekly. The Lost & Found bin will be emptied every two weeks. If
a child's name is not in uniform clothing (a silver Sharpie works well
for marking dark items), these items will be washed and resold by the
Parents' Association.

H1N1 FLU SYMPTOMS & VACCINE INFORMATION
|
|
We continue to have confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu at the school. To help identify this flu strain's symptoms (vs. regular flu or common cold), please see the H1N1 Flu symptom chart posted to the CCS website.
DHEC Vaccine Clinics DHEC has recommended that we strongly encourage all of our parents to call 953-0090 to schedule vaccination appointments ASAP. The vaccination is available at DHEC free clinics: the sooner our families call, the easier it will be to get an appointment, and the safer the campus will be for all of us. Please call and schedule an appointment for your child to receive a free vaccination ASAP.
School Policy An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a
student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being
fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.
