Greetings!
Congratulations to Hacker and Stephanie Burr on the birth of Hadley
Rose Burr! Baby Hadley was born on Sunday, Nov. 29th, and weighed 6
lbs. 12 oz. First semester after-school activities will be ending the week of December 14th. Please email Tiffany Frank with any questions. Congratulations to senior Kate Miller, who has been named "Youth of the Month" by the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club! Kate will receive an award at the Exchange Club dinner on Wednesday, December 16th. Kate writes a monthly column for CCS in the Post & Courier as part of her independent journalism class; you can read her November column here. Many thanks to Kelly Albers, Wendy Rickman and the Lower School Room Parents who helped
coordinate our wonderful Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, Nov. 24th. We
had a delicious spread contributed by Lower School Parents.
Approximately 170 people attended to kick off the Thanksgiving Holiday!  Peter Beck (1st grade) samples the Thanksgiving goodies.If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to contact the front office to insure we have their correct e-mail address. LOST & FOUND
|
|
All students and parents should check the Lost & Found in the rear of the café weekly. The Lost & Found bin will be emptied every two weeks. This is one of the weeks that the bin is being emptied: there are a number of uniform jackets, books, and bookbags that need to be claimed by Friday!
If
a child's name is not in uniform clothing (a silver Sharpie works well
for marking dark items), these items will be washed and resold by the
Parents' Association. |

MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE

 A Middle School Dance will be held in the
cafe on Saturday, December 5th from 7:00pm to
9:30pm. The theme is "Winter Wonderland". Admission is $3. Bring a friend!

There will be a Home Tour Committee meeting at Sunrise Bistro on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at 8:15am.
Calling all interior designers and home staging companies! We are excited to announce that Inside Kiawah's Finest Home Tour will feature a Designer Showcase Home this year. Auction meeting will be on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd
at 11 a.m. at the King Street Grill in the Kiawah Village. (map) We will be taste testing for a caterer at this time.

HOLIDAY CHILD CARE
|
|
Offered During Winter Break
 Charleston Collegiate will be offering child care during the holidays when the school is closed. The dates are: Dec. 18, 21-23, 28-30, and Jan. 4. Hours will be 8:00am - 4:00pm at $7.00 per hour.
A flyer has been sent home to all Lower School parents. Please select the dates and times you will be using care and submit the form with payment in full by December 4th. We are asking you to prepay so we are sufficiently staffed. You may sign up for all or some of the days, or any part of a day.

The Act of Giving for
the Holidays
Instead of having gift
exchanges in classrooms this year, the Parents' Association has decided to
participate in gift-giving to children in foster homes. We will receive a list of names and sizes of
children and would like each of our students to give a foster child a pair of
pajamas. We will have a Pajama Party at
school to celebrate.

AFTER-SCHOOL ART CLASS: HOLIDAY GIFT MAKING

 Whether you will be celebrating Kwanza, Christmas, Chanukah, or just love creating handmade objects, this series is for you. Come use glass, clay, foil and other materials to create ornaments, bowls, jewelry and more!

MIDDLE & UPPER SCHOOL TALENT SHOW
|
|
On January 29th
 A CCS Talent Show will be held on Jan. 29th at 7pm as a fundraiser for Prom. Admission will be $5.
Auditions will be on Jan. 7th., with rehearsals on Jan. 14th & 21st. Skits should be 3-5 minutes in length. The talent show is open to both Middle & Upper School students.

JUNIOR CLASS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
|
|
 Holiday Toy Drive
As a community service project, the junior girls are organizing a toy drive. The toy drive will benefit the children at Rural Mission Head Start. The drive will be a competition between Middle and Upper School. We will place bins in the library for Middle School and by Mrs. Boyd's office for the Upper School. We'll be taking gently used and new toys for ages six months to five years (no choking hazards!). The competition began November 19 and ends at the beginning of December. Winners will be allowed to wear jeans with the school polo one day in January.

 SAT Prep Course
Congratulations to the following seniors for their recent college acceptances: Jordan deJong - UNC Wilmington; Elizabeth Howell - Winthrop University; Jessica Wood - USC Upstate.
Upcoming visits from college reps are

Students must sign up with Mrs. Boyd or Ms. Pringle prior to the meeting in
order to have permission to attend:

College Edge is offering a SAT prep course for the January 23rd SAT. Due to parent requests, the start date for the class has been moved from Saturday, November 28th to Thursday, December 3rd. The practice test that was scheduled for January 2nd was also moved to the following Saturday, January 9th. They currently have 5 spots left in the Mount Pleasant class and about 5 left on James Island. Yes indeed...it's that time of year already! With Holiday shopping on everyone's to do list, the CCS PA tries to make it easier for your littlest shoppers by hosting "The Gingerbread House" holiday shop.
This annual event is enjoyed by students and parents both
as they pick out gifts for those special friends/family/pets!
To help with Holiday Budgets, all items are priced no higher than $5!
Open on Dec. 9th & 10th -- we will be looking for jolly Elves
to help shoppers, be gift wrappers, and spread good cheer!

H1N1 FLU SYMPTOMS & VACCINE INFORMATION

 We continue to have confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu at the school. To help identify this flu strain's symptoms (vs. regular flu or common cold), please see the H1N1 Flu symptom chart posted to the CCS website.
DHEC Vaccine Clinics
DHEC has recommended that we strongly encourage all of our parents to call 953-0090 to schedule vaccination appointments ASAP. The vaccination is available at DHEC free clinics: the sooner our families call, the easier it will be to get an appointment, and the safer the campus will be for all of us. Please call and schedule an appointment for your child to receive a free vaccination ASAP.
School Policy
An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a
student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being
fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.

CCS WRITING GALLERY
|
|
 Online Writing Project (Ongoing)
In CCS's online gallery, the Charleston Collegiate Collection, we are collecting
various types of writings and artwork (even audio and video) from all students,
teachers, alumni, parents, and friends of CCS. On October 20 the National
Gallery of Writing and our local gallery, opened to the world, and you can still
be a part of it! We invite you to pick a piece of writing that matters to you
and contribute it to The Charleston Collegiate Collection Gallery. Each person may only make one submission per gallery.
Writers keep the copyrights of all work submitted.
Established by NCTE,
the National Gallery of Writing, local writing galleries like ours, and the
National Day of Writing highlight the remarkable variety of writing in which we
engage today, provide a collection for research on whether writing today has
risen to new highs or sunk to new lows, and help NCTE help others to write
better.

Gently-used clothing currently available for purchase include: khakis and jumpers, from $5-10. Also, we are accepting donations for our "change of season" uniform sale in November.
