This Week at St. Paul's - August 11, 2011

This week (Sunday, August 7 to Saturday, August 13), Pastor Vicki is away at Junior High camp, followed by her vacation from Sunday, August 14 to Saturday, August 20, and time at a conference from Sunday, August 21 to Wednesday, August 24. She will be back in the office on Thursday, August 25.

Liz is away from TODAY through Monday, August 15. The office is closed, and will reopen on Tuesday, August 16.

Hymn L221 - Was chosen by Margaret Wesolowski, because she sang it on pilgrimage to St. Anne in Quebec every summer with her grandmother.

Diocesan-Wide 20s/30s Picnic - RSVP by August 15

The Cathedral is hosting a Diocesan-wide 20s & 30s picnic on Sunday, August 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Festival Park (215 Ohio St. in Buffalo). The Cathedral will provide food, drinks, and fun. Duffers Outing - August 20

We will hold a Duffers Outing on Saturday, August 20. We will start our morning at 8:30 a.m.with breakfast at Helen's Kitchen in Transitown Plaza (Costs are your own for breakfast.)

At 10 a.m, join us at Harris Hill Golf Center (Genesee St., just west of Harris Hill Rd.), for 9 holes of golf on a par 3 course. Cost to play is $11 ($10 for those aged 58+). Pull cart rental and club rental are both available for an additional fee.

Sign Up Now for Harry Potter VBS!!!

Vacation Bible School will take place from Sunday, August 28 to Wednesday, August 31, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Our theme is Harry Potter. Participants will learn about the magic of God's creation and the power of His love with games, crafts, fun, friends, and muggle Quidditch. It is open to ages 3-adult, though we ask that parents stay with their children aged 3-5 throughout the program. If your child is 6 or older, you may stay if you wish, or drop your child off and pick him/her up at 8 p.m. There is no charge, but we need to know if you're coming, so please call the office at 632-8221. Please invite your friends and neighbors, too! We hope to see you here.

We Are Collecting School Supplies!!

We are once again collecting school supplies for needy families and schools in the area. The following items are needed:

Backpacks
Notebook paper
Spiral notebooks
Pencils
Pens
Glue & Glue Sticks
Crayons
Markers
Rulers
Erasers
Folders
3-ring binders
Scissors

Please put your supplies in the bins in the front of the church and in the library - we will bless them in church on August 28.

St. Paul's on Facebook

After some discussion, the parish office has decided that a Facebook "page" better suits our purposes than our former group, so we have created one. Just go HERE, and click "like", and you're all set! Anything we post will begin showing up in your news feed.

Tutoring @ Harris Hill Elementary

As some of you know, Pastor Vicki has been tutoring at Harris Hill this school year and last. Harris Hill is seeing an increased need for tutors - they especially need people who would be willing read one on one with kindergarteners, first and second graders who are learning to read. There is also a need for people willing to work with children on math.

What is necessary is a free hour a week between 8:30 and 2:30 and a willingness to help.

We are beginning to recruit tutors for the 2011-2012 academic year. We will have a meeting in August to get ready for September.

Can you knit or crochet?

Help us turn all of the yarn that's been donated into blanket squares for Roswell and and full-size blankets for Project Linus. Pick up an instruction sheet and a kit from the church. Instruction sheets are on the poster in the kitchen hallway, and kits are available from Barb Dascomb.
