This Week at St. Paul's
Elder Seminar - TONIGHT!!!

We will once again be hosting a forum with a panel of professionals on Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m.  The title of the forum will be "Aging is Inevitable: Adult Children and Their Aging Parents, Relatives or Friends."  We will be hosting a series of these forums throughout 2010-2011.  For detailed information, visit stpaulsharrishill.org, where you can download a PDF flyer.  This event is free and open to the public, so please invite anyone who might find it helpful.  Thank you!
Help Us Help Others
We are seeking donations of new or gently used winter clothing to be given to the two refugee families that St. Paul's has been assisting through Journey's End.  We need coats, hats, boots, mittens/gloves, and scarves for 2 women, 2 men, and several children, ranging in age from toddler to teen.  Please bring your donations to the church as soon as possible (this week would be great!), so that we can make sure they are clothed adequately for the coming winter.  Thank you!
20s/30s Group Meeting - THIS SUNDAY!!!

The 20s/30s Group will meet on Sunday, October 24 at 1pm here at the church to eat and watch football.  Bring a dish to share.  Guests are welcome.  We hope you'll join us!
Meet the Presiding Bishop!
On Saturday October 30 there will be an opportunity for young adults from high school to age 30 to have lunch and talk with the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori.

It will be from Noon to 1:30 as the PB's schedule allows (she has other visits before and the Convention Eucharist after).  This event is designed to be an exclusive opportunity for folks in the designated age group to ask Bishop Katharine questions.  (A second event is planned next spring for younger youth)

Details:
Noon to 1:30PM at St Patrick's church, 1395 George Urban Blvd in Cheektowaga.  RSVPs for lunch are required.  Lunch choices are Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad or a Veggie Wrap.

If you would like to attend, you MUST RSVP to the parish office (632-8221 or paulspals@gmail.com, by Tuesday morning, 10/26).
Confirmation - Classes are now on-going!

Bishop Michael's last visit with us will be on Sunday December 5.  He will be retiring at the end of April.  Since the Bishop is coming that means that it is time for Confirmation and Reception classes.

If you:
  • Will turn 15 before the end of the school year or are an adult
  • Have not been confirmed in the Episcopal, Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox churches
  • Wish to be a part of the Episcopal Church for this portion of your spiritual journey
You are eligible for Confirmation.

If you:
  • Will turn 15 before the end of the school year or are an adult
  • Were confirmed in the Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox churches
  • Wish to be a part of the Episcopal Church for this portion of your spiritual journey
You are eligible to be Received into the Episcopal Church.

The preparation for Confirmation and Reception are the same.  Pastor Vicki is conducting preparation classes. The classes are taking place in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 9:45 from October 10 through November 21.

The classes will include sessions on the beginnings of Anglicanism, the Episcopal Church and how the Episcopal Church approaches Scripture and Theology.  If you are interested in any of those topics, come along even if you are already confirmed.

Materials from the classes, including class audio and Powerpoint slides are now available on the website.
Brent School Course

Pastor Vicki is teaching a Brent School class on Generations in America at St. Paul's on Wednesday November 10 and 17.  The class will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  The Brent School is a ministry of the Diocese of Western New York.  The class is on the 5 generations currently in American society, the experiences that shaped them and what generational theory can tell the church about reaching out to them.  The cost of the class is $10.  For more information or to register http://www.episcopalwny.org/ministries/christian-formation/brent-school
Can You Help?

We are looking for people to be part of planning teams for a couple of events that will be happening in the spring. Each team is looking for 3 or 4 people to work with Pastor Vicki on the events.  They are:  The Episcopal Community Services campaign in March; the Easter Egg Hunt in April; The Carnival in May and a Vacation Bible School this summer.  The sign up sheet is in the parish hall.
Thank You!
Earlier this week, your donations of cereal, peanut butter and jelly were taken to the Kevin Guest House, and the Williamsville Food Pantry.  These donations included 30 boxes of cereal, 26 jars of peanut butter, and 3 jars of jelly.  We will continue to collect these items, as they are in particular demand on a constant basis.  As the weather begins to turn colder, please consider donating warm cereals also.  Thank you!
