Youth Mission Day
The Youth Commission has identified a project for young people to engage in as a part of their mission work locally. On May 8, 2010, youth from across our diocese are encouraged help at the Lancaster Food Pantry at Trinity Church, 5448 Broadway in Lancaster (take Harris Hill to Broadway and turn left - church is on the left about two blocks), from noon to 4 p.m. We will be assisting the food pantry with the reception of canned food goods from the US Postal Service collection that takes place that day.

Youth can further support this project by collecting and bringing items such as paper, hygiene and health care products, which are not anticipated to be included in the bags of donations collected by postal workers, along with them to the pantry.

This Mission Day builds on last summer's mission trip to New Orleans and mission trip planned this summer, supported by the Diocesan Convention's resolution and collection of funds.

The success of this project will be presented at the upcoming mission convocation on May 15. Attendance and participation of youth at both events will be greatly appreciated!
Deanery Youth Retreat
The Eastern Erie Deanery Youth Group Lock-in will be at St. Patrick's, Cheektowaga (on George Urban just past Dick Rd.)  The lock-in begins at 8 p.m. on Friday May 14 and will end at
11 a.m. on Saturday May 15.  This will be an evening of games, prayer, fun and fellowship. Any youth grades 5 - 8 are invited to participate (you can bring your friends).  Any high school youth who would like to help are welcome too.

Participants should bring:  Sleeping Bag, Toiletries, a flashlight and drink & snack to share (no peanut products please).

Permission Slips are on the youth bulletin board across from the kitchen and in the Sunday School hall.  Permission slips need to be in to Pastor Vicki or Andrea Brown by May 9.

Applications for the Diocesan youth camps are now available!!!  There are 3 different sessions available, depending on age/grade level:

Pastor Vicki will be on the staff of Junior High camp this year, and Liz (our secretary) will be on the staff on Senior High camp.  See Pastor Vicki or Andrea for more information or to get an application.  Scholarship funds are available to assist anyone who needs help attending camp - see Pastor Vicki.  :-)
Youth Mission Trip
As you know, the youth group has been raising money for our mission trip this summer.  We were planning on going to Mexico City to work with some congregations there as they built and expanded their facilities.  Unfortunately, the deteriorating political situation in Mexico has made it too dangerous to travel there are this time.

So, we will be changing plans and doing a local mission trip this year.  We will be working in Buffalo and staying at St. Mark's Church, Riverside.  Plans are still in process, but the trip will be in late July or mid-August (Camp is in early August).  Watch for details soon.

Next year we will be doing a regional Mission Trip, we hope to be headed to East Tennessee to work in the Appalachian mountains.  We will put an international Mission Trip on the rotation for the summer of 2012.  We will use the funds raised for this year's trip and to save for next year's as well.

The hope is to establish a cycle of Mission Trips - a local trip, a regional trip and an international trip - so that all our youth have the opportunity to do all three.

If you are interested in helping plan Mission Trips (or working with the youth group in general) let Pastor Vicki or Andrea Brown know.

Thank you for your support of our youth!
