Dear GVCCC Friends and Members,
This week we're getting a jump on two big events coming up in October. The first is the Small Business Expo on October 5th which is a great networking event for business owners with workshops and informative seminars to attend. The second event is Out to Work, the biggest LGBT Job Fair in the Northeast. 1,500 potential employees are scheduled to attend and exhibitors from all industries will be present. Time is limited, though, and exhibitor registration will be cut off at 50. Sign up to be an exhibitor at both of these great events today.
We also just wanted to remind everyone about the upcoming Vandalism Task Force Meeting on August 9th. Please come join us to discuss how to make our Village a safer place.
Lastly, we'd like to extend our congratulations to chamber member Las Chicas Locas on being named a High Road Restaurant by the NYC Restaurant Industry Roundtable and to @WhatAGrossPeach, for being the winner of last week's giveaway!
See below for additional events and chamber happenings.
Best,
GVCCC

Vandalism Task Force
| |
It has come to our attention through recent events that areas of the West Village, specifically Christopher Street and the area surrounding the Lucille Lortel Theater and PATH Station, are experiencing a notable uptick in criminal activity. The NYPD has informed us that violent crime has increased near the PATH Station on Christopher Street and that several acts of vandalism and destruction of property have been reported, including several large glass panes being shattered at the Theater itself.
Needless to say, this impacts both the residential and business communities in a profound way. It is concerning and frightening when our streets become unsafe, and the time to act is now.
At the GVCCC, we recognize the power of collective bargaining and believe that we are a strong community, which is why we are announcing the formulation of the Keeping Our Village Safe Task Force (KOVS) that will address these recent developments in a direct and effective manner.
First Meeting:
Tuesday, August 9th | 12pm-1pm
RSVP at tom@villagechelsea.com or call (646)470-1773
If you're interested in joining the task force, please let us know at tom@villagechelsea.com
We ask that you rise to the challenge and do your part to protect our Village and keep it safe. If nothing else, it is our responsibility.

If You Care, Eat Here

The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce congratulates Chamber member Las Chicas Locas for being names a High Road Restaurant by the NYC Restaurant Industry Roundtable.

Founded in 2005, the NYC Restaurant Industry Roundtable is a collaboration of restaurant owners, workers, government agencies, city officials, and the Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York (ROC-NY). As a group, they work to develop strategies to help restaurants take the "high road" to profitability, and therefore create a better industry for both employees and owners. Over the past several years, Roundtable members have created a Best Practices Agreement, which illustrates what it means to be High Road Restaurant.

Meeting Demand: The Policy and Politics of New York's Energy Outlook
| |

Recent events in Japan refocused attention in New York on nuclear energy and our energy infrastructure. But those who monitor the state's various energy systems - from power generators and distributors, to regulators and policy makers, and energy and environmental advocates - understand that looking at nuclear power alone is too narrow a focus.
City Hall newspaper, in partnership with the New York Building Congress and the New York League of Conservation Voters, has organized a panel of experts, advocates, and government officials to facilitate a conversation on the policy and politics surrounding New York's energy outlook, including system stability and reliability, economic development impacts, environmental issues, public safety, and long-term planning and sustainability.
