GVCCC Member Happenings!
Events, Discounts, Resources
23 March 2010

Hello Members and Friends,

We hope this email finds you well and successful!

Please note the GVCCC office will be closed from March 25 through March 31, but if you have any urgent issues you can email gvcchamber@gmail.com.

The Energy Efficiency Program held yesterday with the Union Square Partnership gave many small businesses an understanding of how to "green" their business to save money.  Want to know more about how to save money and be energy efficient?  Please refer to the information from Con Ed below.

Working with your local community board is an important part of operating your business.  To that end, we have scheduled mixers with Manhattan Community Board 2 and Manhattan Community Board 4 for the coming months, and hope you will take advantage of these events.  Please note, the happy hour with Community Board 2 originally scheduled for March has been moved to June.

Our calendar is constantly growing, so if you have an idea for an event or a speaker based on a pressing local issue, send us an email.  We are always interested in your thoughts and ideas, and making the Chamber the best resource for you and your business.

Best,

The GVCCC

Say No to Gross Receipts Tax!!

Governor Paterson's 2010-2011 Executive Budget includes a proposal (not currently in effect) that would give the authority to local governments to raise the Gross Receipts Tax on utilities from 1% to 3%.  For Con Edison alone, this adds up to an additional $14 million that would be passed on to Con Ed customers.   In essence, this tax is another 18-a assessment, making a company a tax collector for the government
.

This increase means an additional $14 million will be passed on to electric utility customers, with similar increases to be seen in water, gas and telephone bills on top of what the consumer already pays.

27% of Con Edison customer utility bills already go to various taxes, fees and assessments!  Nonetheless, utility bills are still being used to address state budget shortfalls.

The GVCCC urges you to speak out by emailing your political representatives:

Email your State Assembly Member.  Don't know who your Assembly Member is?  Click here to find out.

Email your NY State Senator.

Email Governor Paterson.
