Summertime
Cancer, unfortunately, trickles along
In summer, winter, spring or fall.
I admire the doctors who do research
For curing cancer, for them, is their call.
So to step aside for a moment in time
Enjoying the wonderful gifts of summer,
Swimming, biking, or eating ice cream
Just being with your sister or brother.
Is a balm for the soul, we all know,
For it refreshes the mind each day.
But soon summertime is over and gone
And back in the lab are they.
How grateful we are for these doctors
Who stay steady in their purpose and goal,
For to cure cancer is a daunting task
Requiring persistence and long hours of toil.
So as these summer days are ending
This is my wish for you,
That your summer break has refreshed your mind
And you can return to your research - a new.
