Winter Greetings to All!
It's January. The celebration of Epiphany is over. The Christmas decorations have been put away; the Manger scene last to be boxed and returned to storage. Our home looks bare. The Broncos are not in the playoffs. The weather folks remind us that January is the coldest month of the year. The dead of winter is upon us.
Here's the good news. The kids are back in school. We don't have near as many social occasions to attend during which we often consume many unneeded calories. We can get back into a routine. Our electric bills may go down depending on the number of Christmas lights both inside and outside our homes that we no longer turn on each evening. Best of all, our small communities return to regular meeting schedules.
Should your SCC need new faith sharing material as you resume regular gatherings, there are lots of great series, not to mention DVDs of S.O.N. presentations, that can provide thoughtful topics for faith sharing. Review the listing of resources at Small Church Community Resources and then visit the Parish Library/Resource Room or call the SCC Office. Even though it's winter it needn't be cold and dreary. Slow down and enjoy the warmth and the light of Christ that we bring into one another's lives. Also plan to feast at the SCC annual Mass and Potluck on February 3rd!
Blessings,
Barb Howard
P.S. Many, many thanks for all your love, support and prayers during the months that Mike and I so needed them. I am well and Mike is improving with each new day. We wouldn't be where we are without you!

Annual SCC Mass and Potluck
All You Need is Love
Wednesday, February 3rd
Mass at 6:00 p.m. in the Church
Dinner follows in the Spirit Center
It's time for us to get together to celebrate as Small Church Communities. On Wednesday, February 3d, there will be a special Small Church Community Mass at 6:00 p.m. followed by a fabulous potluck dinner prepared by some of the best cooks in the parish! (Since February 3rd is also the feast of Saint Blaise, those who wish to do so may have their throats blessed at the Mass!)
The potluck will be our first all SCC event in the newly remodeled Spirit Center. We' will have lots of time to visit at dinner and then we'll be treated to some brief remarks from a guest speaker we all know well. New Lectionary-based Lenten materials will also be available for all SCCs that are planning on meeting weekly during Lent.
Our theme for the evening reminds us that love is the primary directive for Christian life. Christian love has three dimensions: love of God, love of neighbor and love of self. We all know that if we first don't love (and forgive) ourselves it's pretty difficult to love our neighbor. And if we don't love our neighbor whom we can see then how can we really love God whom we cannot see? The path of love is both difficult and glorious. Let's spend some time just celebrating our efforts to love.
For the potluck, please bring the following according to the first initial of your last name: A - K: Main Dish L - S: Salad or Vegetable T - Z: Dessert. Please also bring one non-perishable food item for the Arvada Food Bank.
Because we want to have enough tables set up, please let me know if you will be able to attend. I sure hope so! Call the parish office at 303-422-9173 or email me at bhoward@spiritofchrist.org by Monday, February 1st!!
