A Mother's Story

Run to the Sun
A year ago, Lance Thompson, our good friend and avid runner, came to us with an idea to organize a 100-mile overnight relay run to raise money for the Foundation. Admittedly, I'm not a runner, and my first reaction was, "Who in the world is going to want to do that?!!"

Fund-Raiser For the third year in a row, Adelante Boutique in Austin has hosted a BBDF party. Shoppers browsed the racks while enjoying refreshments, and Adelante donated a percentage of all sales to the Foundation. Thank you to owner Tricia Roberts for being a longtime supporter and to all the event organizers!

The Run to the Sun is just around the corner! Approximately 30 teams of eight runners each are participating in this inaugural 96-mile overnight relay run May 14-15 from Mount Bonnell in Austin to Enchanted Rock in the Texas Hill Country. With a fundraising goal of $125,000, the teams have already raised $108,000--critical funding that the Beyond Batten Disease Foundation will use in its fight to eradicate Batten disease through research and prevention.

Please click HERE to sign up to volunteer online. If you have children who would like to get involved, consider setting up a "cheer station" along the route to encourage the runners. If you have questions, contact us at runtothesun@beyondbatten.org.
Sunrise Finale:
Come join the fun and watch the teams as they depart from Mount Bonnell on May 14, starting at 2:30 p.m., or as they cross the finish line at Enchanted Rock at sunrise the following morning. The event will culminate in a family-friendly celebration, starting at 6 a.m. on May 15, and will feature breakfast, an awards presentation and a special musical performance by the Gospel Stars choir.
Thank you:
Our sincere gratitude goes out to all of the participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who are making this event possible. Thank you for providing hope to all the children and families affected by Batten Disease.
