  •   Welcome to the 2nd VNoC enewsletter of 2012!

This winter is turning out to be a very busy time at VNoC.  Dr. McDonnell is going to be speaking at the upcoming Penn Annual Conference; and we've started out Lunch with Neuro series. As our services become better known - and that VNoC is the only practice in the area with two neurologists-we're receiving more referrals.

VNoC would like to thank you for your continued confidence in referring your patients to our practice. We are honored that you trust and value our services.

    Sincerely,

Dr. Jay McDonnell, Dr. Jeanene Harris & VNoC Staff

A project of the Children's Hospital in Boston, this map
delivers real-time intelligence on a broad range of emerging infectious diseases for a diverse audience including libraries, local health departments, governments, and international travelers. HealthMap brings together disparate data sources, including online news aggregators, eyewitness reports, expert-curated discussions and validated official reports, to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. Through an automated process, updating 24/7/365, the system monitors, organizes, integrates, filters, visualizes and disseminates online information about emerging diseases in nine languages, facilitating early detection of global public health threats.

DrMcDDr. McDonnell to Speak At 112th Penn Annual Conference
Dr. Jay McDonnell, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology)Dr. McDonnell has been asked to present at the 112th Penn Annual Conference, which is being held March 7-9 in Philadelphia. The conference, which is presented by the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, will focus on emergency and critical care. He will speak on When to Refer Neurosurgery Cases: Back, Necks and Seizures. According to Dr. McDonnell, "The most common neurosurgical cases seen are those of the thoracolumbar spine, the cervical spine and brain surgery for tumor removal. The timely referral of neurosurgical cases for advanced diagnostics and treatment may be the best service we can give our patients."

And don't forget during the week, if you have a patient that needs to be seen the same day, please give us a call. No ER fees will apply for patients seen the same day before noon.

HappyTail Cheers from Murphy! His Happy Tail
murphy It struck me this morning that this February 29 "Leap Day" adds an extra day to the life of our 9-year-old blond Lab rescue, Murphy. Just 15 months ago, we weren't at all sure that Murphy had many days left. However, thanks to Dr. Jay McDonnell and a number of other great folks there at Chesapeake Veterinary, Murphy continues to enjoy life to the fullest-and to daily enrich ours!

newstaffWorking in veterinary medicine runs in Chelsea's family. "My stepmom and dad are vet techs," says Chelsea, who is a certified veterinary assistant. "I decided to become a vet assistant while I'm on the waiting list to get into a vet tech program." Her ultimate goal, though, is to become a veterinarian; and she's mapped out a step-by-step plan to gain knowledge and experience she'll need to reach that goal.

Born in Salt Lake City, Chelsea lived in California and Delaware before settling in Maryland. Animals have always been part of her life; she's had eight chinchillas, a Corgie and a ferret, but for the past 10 years, beagle Lucy Lou has been her much-loved companion.
