Welcome to our second issue of the Pet Neuro-Newsletter.   This issue has some exciting articles, features and even a survey!

Time is valuable, so we have kept the survey brief and should only take about 90 seconds to fill out online.  We wish to have the  referring veterinarians help us build a service that works
for them and this a major way to achieve this goal.  The link for the survey is below the stories and we thank you in advance for taking the time to provide feedback!

We know that you probably receive a lot of emails and understand it
can be overwhelming, so if you would prefer not to receive information via email, please click on unsubscribe at the bottom of the newsletter.

mri MRI Services in AA County!
Veterinary MRI now available in Anne Arundel County!

I am very excited to announce that we are going to be able to provide magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services to animals in the Annapolis and surrounding Anne Arundel county area. With it's excellent soft-tissue detail and three-dimensional reconstruction, MRI   is one of the most powerful imaging techniques uniquely suited for the central nervous system. MRI is a very safe, non-invasive and painfree way to evaluate structures within the body.

New DNA Test Available for Canine Degenerative Myelopathy

Canine degenerative myelopathy (DM) is a chronic progressive disease of the spinal cord in dogs.  It is an insidious disease that affects dogs typically between 7 and 14 years of age. Initially, dogs become ataxic (in coordinated) in the hind limbs and typically progresses over 6 months to 2 years eventually causing paralysis. DM has been described in a large number of dogs including German Shepherd Dogs, Boxers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and both breeds of Welch Corgis. This is one of our most frustrating diseases because of the difficulty in diagnosing and treating it. We have no proven treatment for DM except for symptomatic and supportive treatment. Now for the first time, we can test dogs for the mutated gene responsible for DM using a simple DNA test.
