Aprils' Story:
Communication Success!!!
April is an old girl,
13 years old but is still very active and playful. She is a small mixed toy dog
that only weighed 11 pounds. She was bitten in the head by a visiting dog
in the house. She presented to a local emergency clinic and was expertly
stabilized. A bite wound was identified over the right side of her head. She
seemed quiet but responsive at this time. Over night and the next 24 hours her
status declined. She developed seizures which were treated with diazepam and
Phenobarbital. She became increasingly dull and less responsive.

A simple "Thank you"
Dear Doctors,
I'd like to thank everyone for the support and interest in
my Veterinary Neurology-Neurosurgery Consultation Service. Clients and you, their veterinarian, have enthusiastically welcomed me for consultations resulting in diagnosis and
treatment of some pretty incredible neurological cases including fractured
backs, slipped disks in the back and neck, brain tumors, Chiari-like
malformations and one dog that was bitten in the head suffering catastrophic
head trauma (see April's story).
I have preformed routine neurodiagnostic testing at
consulting clinics including electrodiagnostics (EMG, nerve-conduction
velocities), cerebrospinal (CSF) taps and BAER (hearing) tests. We even did a
BAER clinic for more than 30 Boston Terriers (what a hoot!).
I have been using MRI services in Vienna,
VA and Westminster,
MD, providing expert and
state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging. I
have set-up direct connections to both imaging facilities to allow "real-time"
review of the imaging studies when I cannot be at the imaging centers.
I have been fortunate to have surgical privileges at the
Veterinary Neurological and Rehabilitation
Center in Westminster that is owned by Dr. Ron
Schueler. These are terrific facilities in a beautiful setting with some of the
best veterinary neurology technical care that I have known. Twenty-four hour
care for critical patients is available for our cases and a full-service
rehabilitation services are provided for our patients. If you have never been
to Dr. Schueler's hospital, you are missing a treat.
Again, I thank you for your welcome and if you have any
questions about the services or any of your cases, please drop me a line at info@drjaymcdonnell.com.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jay McDonnell
