March 2012

www.coloradocycling.org

Greetings!

How Did March Get Here so Quickly?!?!?

We had a busy and productive month in February, with meetings and summits to get the 2012 road racing season ready to go.  We had a Junior Summit, a Women's Summit, an Official's Clinic and Training, and a Promoters & Registration Meeting.  Whew!  An incredible amount of work goes into our schedule, membership, fundraising, programs, officials' training, and points competitions - thank you Yvonne vG, Keith N, Adam R, Tim M, Shawn Farrell, the ACA Board and so many others for so much great work.

A quick report on the 2011 Colorado Cross Season - we had nearly 10,500 racer days!!  That is up 10% from 2010, and 2010 was up 10% from 2009!  Cross is a growing phenomenon around the country, and our race directors, clubs, athletes, officials, volunteers, and host communities have clearly elevated the sport in Colorado in a way that was simply unimaginable a few years ago.  A HUGE congratulations to everyone who played in role in our wildly successful 2011 cross season!

As always, the ACA website - www.coloradocycling.org - is your best source for Colorado racing information.  Please contact ACA staff if you need help with licenses, permits, schedules, upgrades - anything racing related.

Thanks for being part of the ACA and supporting local Colorado racing.

Chris

Please watch the ACA website, Facebook, twitter, and our weekly updates for the latest in ACA happenings, and as always, you can find all the juicy race details on the ACA event calendar.

Thanks for sharing this e-newsletter with your friends and family.

Colorado In the Big Time

We had a great week for announcements concerning elite level racing in Colorado - Stage 6 of the USA Pro Challenge will go from Golden to Boulder and finish on Flagstaff Mountain, and the 2014 Cross Nationals will be at

Valmont Bike Park!

One of the goals for our USAC reintegration is to return Colorado to the center of American cycling, and these two announcements are pieces in the big puzzle.  As evidenced by these great results, the efforts of our Local Organizing Committees were extraordinary.   Thank you to everyone who has worked so tirelessly on behalf of Colorado cycling!

Women's Summit:  a Quick Summary

The 2012 ACA Women's Summit generated good discussion and suggestions about ways to grow and support our fairer bicycle racers.  The event was attended by racers, club leaders, race promoters, officials, ACA Board members and staff, and worked to identify issues and potential solutions for our efforts with women's cycling.  The theme of the Summit was the critical role of clubs in nurturing new athletes, providing a social setting and support for women, helping with equipment and choices in bike shops, and mentoring athletes to be safer and more race-savvy competitors.  The ACA is working to create a series of mentorship events for women, many clubs are coordinating skills clinics, and we are considering a women's only event and festival.

There is a great resource for Colorado's many female athletes, and that is Girl Bike Love.  Check out what these ladies are offering to our cycling community!

This photo was taken after his crash at the RMO Carbondale Criterium in 2011 - don't worry, he's all healed up now!
