The Colorado Racing News The Monthly e-Newsletter of the ACA

February 2012

www.coloradocycling.org

Greetings!

Quick Reflections and a Glance Up the Road
Can you believe the success of Colorado athletes at Cyclocross Nationals and Masters Cross Worlds?  The success of our friends, teammates, and competitors is testimony to the great events that we have here in the ACA, the level of competition that we enjoy, and our tradition of racing like mad dogs.  A most sincere 'Thank you' to our clubs and race directors who create such a fantastic schedule for all of us.

Who is ready for some road racing???  It's only a month until racing begins with the Frost Bite TT and plenty of collegiate events, before ACA racing begins in earnest in April.  We have worked to create a balanced and fun 2012 road racing calendar, and are very excited to announce the Rocky Mtn Road Cup as a means to structure our season and recognize our finest athletes. More info on the Road Cup is in this newsletter and on the ACA website.

The following is excerpted from our January Racing Express.  I thought it useful for those who may have questions about how to be ready for 2012.

In addition to our traditional races, in 2012 the ACA will work with and support collegiate racing and track racing.  We are the one organization that can support, strengthen and lead the local Colorado racing community in the years to come.
What changes will you see in 2012?  The primary change is your racing license, which will now be issued by USAC.  Your additional membership in the ACA will give you access to our great member benefits, such as eligibility in our Points Competitions, State Champion vests, communication via e-mail and e-newsletters, posting your club and business on the ACA website, lap times for many races, great discounts from many of our partners, and our juniors can take advantage of the ACA's Junior Development Program, which will stay 100% intact.

We have created guidelines and a FAQ page to help answer your questions.  The ACA website - www.coloradocycling.org - is your source for racing information.  As always, please contact ACA staff if you need help with licenses, permits, upgrades - anything racing related.

Chris

Please watch the ACA website, Facebook, twitter, and our weekly updates for the latest in ACA happenings, and as always, you can find all the racing details on the ACA event calendar.   Thanks for sharing this e-newsletter with your friends and family.

Meet an ACA Board Member:
Lynn Taylor

lynn taylor 2012

Lynn is a second term board member and also serves in an invaluable role on our Technical Committee.  She is a Level A USAC official and has worked World Championship events and UCI Stage Races.  Lynn is from Minneapolis and has lived in California, Michigan, around Colorado and for the last 21 years in Fort Collins.

Lynn is pretty smart.  She holds a BS (Genetics) from UC Berkeley, and a MS (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) from Colorado State University.  She is currently a Senior Research Associate at CSU.

She has 13 years of racing experience and has been an official for 26 years.  Lynn was the USAC Central Region BAR Champion (1982) and Michigan State Women's Road Champ (1983).  She has found her niche as a Chief Judge, and in the last 6 years, has officiated USAC Road/Track National Championships, NRC races, and UCI stage races, including the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

Lynn was named the USAC 2011 Mountain Region
Official of the Year.  Thank you Lynn for all your contributions to Colorado racing!

Mini Classic Cropped

Big News for our Juniors -  The Colorado Mini Classic

has been named a Lance Armstrong Junior Race Series event for 2012!

This is the highest designation for junior events in the country, and as one of only two events in the Rockies, is sure to attract talented kids from around the West.  Mark your calendars for June 2 & 3, and set your targets on Silt.  Many thanks to Bill Sommers and Two Rivers Cycling for their efforts on this event, and thanks also to Zach Lee for our rippin' new Mini Classic logo.

Rebranded, three-tiered, and ready for business:

the 2012 Rocky Mtn Road Cup

We are very proud to announce revamped points competitions for the 2012 road and cyclocross seasons.  The road competition gets a whole new name - the Rocky Mtn Road Cup - and the cross season will again feature the Colorado Cross Cup branding.

The most significant difference for this year's competitions is the utilization of a three-tiered points system for our 120+ annual events.  The Rocky Mtn Road Cup and Colorado Cross Cup will both feature Bronze, Silver, and Gold Level events.  These levels represent the amount of points on offer for high placed finishers, with Gold events having the most points available. All weekend events that are permitted by clubs who are members of the ACA will be awarded, at a minimum, a Bronze designation.  The ACA Board of Directors will designate those events which will be awarded the Silver and Gold levels based upon recommendations from its Technical Committee, Chief Referee and Chief Judge reports, event quality, prize list, the race director's organization, event tradition, location and timing on the race calendar.

These designations will be available in early February.  Thank you to all our promoting clubs for creating2012 events.

2012 Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial Series at Cherry Creek State Park

Seven Weeks of Time Trialing Goodness!

For 2012,to avoid the meltdowns of the past, and to create a fair registration process for a very popular (ie: sold-out) event, registration for the 2012 KHMTT will be held via a lottery conducted by PreRace and our Race Director.

Please read the flyer and watch PreRace.com for the opening of registration, which will happen around February 1, 2012.

There is no time pressure during registration, as an early registration does not gain a better chance for entry, so relax, sit back, and spend your energy in training for this great event.
